Seeking the best child-free resort in the world: Paraiso de la Bonita
In this article, Brooke presents what may be the best adults-only resort in the Western Hemisphere!
The Mexico-based adults-only Paraiso de la Bonita, a Luxury Collection Resort officially opened its doors on January 30, 2025, along the Riviera Maya coastline. Located just 20 minutes from Cancún International Airport, the resort features 100 oceanfront suites, seven restaurants and bars, and a 22,000-square-foot spa center.
The property offers three outdoor pools, including a saltwater pool and an infinity pool. The resort is a collaboration between Playa Hotels & Resorts and Marriott International. It is also the third all-inclusive hotel in The Luxury Collection portfolio, joining Sanctuary Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic and Almare on Isla Mujeres.
“Playa is thrilled to partner once again with Marriott, as The Luxury Collection brand seamlessly aligns with the unique character and ambiance of this exceptional property,” Fernando Mulet, executive vice president and chief investment officer of Playa Hotels & Resorts, told our friends at Travel + Leisure.
Inside, the individual suites are decorated with handcrafted furnishings and soothing neutral tones, complemented by artwork and décor inspired by traditional Mexican artistry. The spacious accommodations, starting at 1,130 square feet, also feature soaking tubs and either a private terrace or balcony overlooking the beautiful beachfront scenery.
On the dining front, the resort’s four restaurants include K’uhul, which highlights the local flavors of the Yucatán Peninsula; Joya, centered around charcoal and wood-fired cooking; the Mediterranean-inspired Côté à Costa; and Qin Qin, offering a contemporary Chinese menu.
As for bars and lounges, guests can enjoy Mi Lugar, the piano bar Bonita, and the all-day café and lounge Buena Onda, which serves coffee and fresh juices in the morning before transitioning into beachfront cocktails throughout the day.
The property is also home to a 5,000-bottle wine cellar.
The centerpiece of the resort is the expansive Thalasso Spa Center, which offers a menu of holistic treatments, including cacao wraps, massages using locally sourced oils, and the signature Thalasso therapy, which taps into the healing properties of seawater and marine mud. The spa also features a traditional Mayan steam bath, a seawater hydrotherapy pool, a sauna, and nine treatment rooms.
Beyond the wellness center, guests can choose from a long list of included activities, such as wine tastings, cooking classes, tennis, yoga, and snorkeling. Some excursions, including private yacht outings and scuba diving adventures, are available for an additional fee.
Day trips are also easily accessible to attractions such as the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as cenotes and the ancient Mayan archaeological site Chichén Itzá.
