The Wings Were Already There

The Day I Turned In My Company Badge

The day I turned in my company badge, I thought I was closing a chapter.

I didn't know I was closing a version of myself.

For more than a decade, I built a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Before that, I trained as a biologist and earned a master's degree in biotechnology. I could walk into a room and know exactly who I was: the scientist, the professional, the woman with the answers. My identity had a job title, a laboratory, and a language.

Then love redrew my map.

I am a military spouse, and when my husband's orders came, I resigned, packed my life into suitcases, and landed in the United States with a question I could not answer:

Who am I now, professionally speaking?

Nobody warns you that migration is also a form of professional grief.

You don't just leave a country; you leave the version of yourself that made sense there.

My degrees didn't translate overnight. My professional network stayed behind. In meetings, I heard myself introduced by what I used to be. For months, I lived in that strange in-between: no longer the woman I had been, and not yet the one I was becoming.

I tried the advice everyone gives.

Reinvent yourself.

Start over.

It's a blank page.

Every time, something inside me resisted because it felt like a lie.

I wasn't blank. I carried years of scientific training, corporate strategy, and hard-won judgment. Erasing that to "start fresh" wasn't transformation. It was amputation.

The answer, when it came, arrived from the place I least expected:

My first profession.

In biology, there is a fascinating detail about metamorphosis that most people never learn. Inside the caterpillar, before it ever builds a chrysalis, there are clusters of cells called imaginal discs-the complete blueprint for its wings, already present.

The butterfly does not invent itself.

It reorganizes what was already there.

You are not lost.

You are between versions.

And the next version is already within you, waiting to emerge.

That realization became the ground I stood on.

I stopped trying to reinvent myself and started doing something different:

Resignifying.

I began rereading my own history and asking not, "What did I lose?" but rather, "What travels with me?"

The scientist's rigor. The strategist's perspective. The resilience of a woman who rebuilt her life across borders.

None of it disappeared when my circumstances changed. It was simply waiting to be reorganized.

Today, that process has a name-Metamorfosis Profesional (Professional Metamorphosis)-and it has become my life's work.

I walk alongside professional women navigating unplanned transitions: migration, motherhood, divorce, illness, and career breaks. Women who believe they are starting from zero when, in reality, they are not.

Together, we move through three stages:

  • Recognizing what has changed and what part of their identity was left behind.
  • Redefining their experience into a new professional narrative.
  • Projecting that identity into an authentic and visible professional presence.

I do not guide emotional healing. I guide identity clarification and professional repositioning. My promise is not to transform anyone. It is to help women rediscover their direction at the very moment they feel they have lost it.

Most of the women I serve are Latinas, and I carry that identity with intention. We are experts at reinvention we never asked for. We cross borders, languages, and cultures-and we keep building. Yet we are rarely told that our accumulated experience is an asset, not an anecdote.

If you are a Latina reading this and recognize yourself in the in-between, I want you to hear this from someone who understands:

You are not behind.

You are between versions.

And to every woman navigating her own metamorphosis, regardless of what brought you here:

Clarity does not always arrive before you act. More often than not, it is built while walking-with direction, intention, and a clear method.

Visibility-the kind that feels authentic-is not a marketing strategy. It is the natural consequence of finally seeing yourself clearly.

It is not about returning to who you once were. It is about building from who you are today.

The caterpillar never becomes someone else. It becomes more fully what it already carried.

So will you. 🦋✨
