The Women Who Grow in the Cracks

The Women Who Grow in the Cracks

Some women are raised in soft places that nurture and guide. And then there are the rest of us. Those of us who learned to bloom in the cracks where our caregivers should have been tending. We grew up listening to the world before it spoke, deciphering danger the way other children read fairy tales, learning early that the truth often hides in the quiet, ugly spaces between words. We became fluent in the language of shadows and small mercies, fluent in the art of surviving what was meant to destroy us.

Not invisible. Never invisible. Just unseen by people who never learned how to look.

Women who grow in the cracks carry a kind of wisdom that doesn't announce itself. It idles. It waits. It decodes. It's the kind of knowing you earn by studying the weather in a hostile parent's eyes, by noticing the tremor in a voice that says one thing but means another. It's the kind of intelligence that grows in the dark, steady and stubborn, like a promise you make to yourself in the dark.

We didn't become leaders because someone handed us a map or put us here. We became leaders because chaos taught us to pay closer attention. We became healers because we know the shape of hurt and its impact. We became storytellers because silence has never been safe. We became advocates because someone should have been one for us.

Here You Hold This

My book, Here You Hold This, was born from that kind of life. A life that teaches you to read people before you can read books. A life quilt stitched with grit, loads of curiosity, humor sharp enough to cut through the noise, and the quiet belief that even the most fractured beginnings can grow into something steady. It's for the ones who learned to survive by studying the room, the weather, the adults, the silence. The ones who became their own shelter.

Women like us don't just survive. We transmute and alchemize.

  • We take the broken pieces and build beautiful mosaics from our lives.
  • We build futures that look nothing like the ones we were handed.
  • We create safety where none exists.
  • We build community out of thin air. And then...
  • We turn our lived experiences into blueprints for others to follow.

So, here is my invitation.

  • To the collaborators.
  • To the facilitators.
  • To the retreat leaders.
  • To the communication strategists.
  • To the women who understand that leadership is not a title but a lived experience.
  • To the ones building spaces where stories like mine—and stories like theirs—can be held with care.

If you're a woman who grew in the cracks, who turned your pain into purpose, who leads with clarity and heart, I'm interested in the work you're creating. There is real synergy in the way our approaches meet. And I believe the future is being shaped by women who learned to read the world the hard way and still chose to build something better.
