About Amanda

I am a consulting author, creative strategist, and public works consultant based in Norman, Oklahoma and working nationwide. My work lives at the intersection of narrative intelligence, regulatory expertise, and lived experience — shaping how communities, systems, and people evolve.

In my consulting career, I operate within the realm and atmosphere of federally funded public works projects. I contribute to strategic market research, attend industry expos and build shows, and cultivate high‑value relationships through extensive networking and outreach. My focus is understanding how public systems function, where they fail, and how they can be improved through clarity, compliance, and human‑centered strategy.

Before entering public works, I spent more than 26 years building and developing teams in the restaurant industry, earning recognition including the Hearst Hospitality Award for my contributions to service leadership. I later transitioned into sales and insurance, becoming a licensed life and health insurance agent and expanding my expertise across multiple industries. These experiences taught me how to read people, understand systems, and lead with both precision and empathy.

Alongside my professional career, I have spent decades writing my autobiography — a project I began in 2003 and consider my life’s doctoral thesis. The work chronicles my journey through childhood trauma, foster care, and becoming a teenage mother, as well as my determination to build a career without a traditional support system or formal higher education. My manuscript transforms lived experience into a broader exploration of resilience, human behavior, identity, and the systems that shape people’s lives.

I view my greatest professional achievement as my personal survival and the continued development of my autobiography. I attribute my success to the meaningful, symbiotic relationships I’ve built with clients, colleagues, and communities throughout my career. Guided by values of balance, service, and community involvement, I believe positive change often begins with small acts of kindness and integrity — choices that create lasting ripples across a career, a community, and a life.

To young women entering the workforce, I encourage them to embrace their inner fire, trust their strength, and pursue their ambitions without fear.

Ten minutes with Amanda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the constellation of relationships—brief, profound, complicated, and sometimes painful—that have shaped me throughout my life. Many of the most impactful connections were small and fleeting, yet they altered my direction, sharpened my instincts, and expanded my understanding of human behavior. Some relationships offered guidance, others offered hard lessons, and a few offered warnings I didn’t recognize until much later. All of them contributed to the woman I became.

My ambition has been both a driving force and a disruptive one. It has led me into extraordinary opportunities and, at times, straight into chaos. But every experience—whether born from resilience or miscalculation—became part of my internal curriculum. These encounters taught me how to read people, navigate systems, rebuild myself, and move forward with clarity and intention.

My success is the product of symbiotic connections, both chosen and accidental. Growth often comes from unexpected places: a stranger’s kindness, a mentor’s challenge, a friend’s betrayal, a colleague’s encouragement, or a moment of truth delivered by someone who never knew they were shaping my future. These relationships—the small ones, the sharp ones, the transformative ones—form the backbone of my personal and professional evolution.

They taught me that triumph is not the absence of hardship, but the ability to turn every encounter into insight, every setback into strategy, and every moment into momentum.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to do good, even when it comes at a personal cost. Integrity has a way of echoing forward, creating quiet, powerful ripples that shape your career, your relationships, and the lives of others long after the moment has passed. I’ve learned that choosing what is right over what is easy builds a foundation you can stand on, especially when the world feels unstable.

I’ve also learned the importance of taking chances and stepping into opportunities even when the outcome is uncertain. Growth has never been comfortable for me, but it has always been necessary. Every time I’ve pushed myself beyond what felt safe — whether in work, in writing, or in rebuilding my life — it opened doors I didn’t know existed. Courage has shaped my professional journey as much as resilience has, and both have taught me that the most meaningful progress often begins with a single, risky step forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women stepping into any professional space — especially those who have lived through hardship, instability, or trauma — is to never be afraid of the fire within you. Women are often taught to soften their edges, quiet their instincts, and minimize their ambition, but the truth is that your inner flame is one of your greatest assets. It is your clarity, your drive, your intuition, and your power.Do not shrink yourself to make others comfortable. Take up space. Trust your instincts. Pursue opportunities even when they feel bigger than you. The fire inside you is not something to tame — it’s something to learn how to wield.Your passion, your determination, and your lived experience are not liabilities; they are tools. They will help you navigate challenges, build confidence, and create meaningful success. The world will try to convince you to dim your light. Don’t. Your strength is not something to hide — it’s something to grow into.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I face in my field right now is finding professional environments that truly support growth, contribution, and long‑term thriving. My work spans public works consulting, narrative strategy, and lived‑experience leadership — and not every organization is built to hold that kind of depth, complexity, or human‑centered approach.

I’ve learned that the real opportunity lies in being intentional about the spaces I choose. The right environments value collaboration, integrity, innovation, and personal development. They create room for people to bring their strengths forward, build meaningful relationships, and make an impact that lasts beyond a single project or role.

Finding the right atmosphere isn’t just a career decision — it’s a catalyst. When you’re surrounded by people and systems that align with your values, your work becomes sharper, your confidence grows, and your contributions carry farther. The challenge is identifying those spaces. The opportunity is what happens once you do.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me, both in my work and in my personal life, are balance and community. Balance has been essential to my survival and my success — it’s what allows me to stay grounded, make clear decisions, and continue growing without losing myself in the process.

After everything I’ve lived through, I’ve learned that maintaining equilibrium isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity.

Community is equally vital. Throughout my life, the people around me — whether they were present for years or only for a moment — shaped my path in ways I couldn’t always see at the time.

Strong communities provide connection, support, accountability, and belonging. They help people thrive, especially those who have had to rebuild themselves more than once.

I believe deeply in supporting local communities through outreach, service, and meaningful engagement.

Contributing to the people and organizations around me is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting impact. My work, my writing, and my personal values all align with the idea that we rise together — and that even small acts of integrity and kindness can ripple outward in ways that matter.
