Her Story

About Amy

Amy Endee has spent 11 years working in the nonprofit world, primarily in healthcare and biotech organizations. She began her career in education before moving into social work at a Community Health Center in Hawaii, where she supported individuals with HIV and Hepatitis C. She later transitioned into HR, drawn by the opportunity to blend her systems theory background from her Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy with business strategy. Amy holds a Senior Certified Professional credential from SHRM and is fully EOS trained. In her current role, which she began in March, she leads a team of six and oversees initiatives ranging from HRIS implementation and policy writing to AI strategy and facilitating strategic planning sessions with the executive team. She attributes her success to a unique systems-oriented lens that helps identify root causes and second-order change, combined with a bottom-up approach that builds trust through keeping her word and connecting authentically with people rather than acting as the HR police. Amy is a member of SHRM and has volunteered with Seeds of Change, conducting mock interviews for underrepresented youth.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Amy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm good at what I do with a unique lens from operations training and systems theory background that helps me look at root causes and second-order change. I take a bottom-up approach, build trust by keeping my word, and connect with people rather than acting as the HR police.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Read constantly and absorb information like a sponge from TED Talks, Masterclass, YouTube, and books. Gain exposure and observe. For HR specifically, get out of the transactional box, understand the business and operations, bring strategy to the table, and recognize that culture is how the work gets done.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include navigating changing EEOC regulations around DEI, implementing AI effectively as a people issue rather than just tech deployment, and getting HR a seat at the table by understanding finance and business strategy. The opportunity is for HR to be viewed as a strategic lever by demonstrating value through business objectives rather than transactional work.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity is number one - acting in good faith with no lying or bad faith toward employees. Also important are being open and willing, maintaining a learning culture where mistakes can be admitted, flexibility, and continuously learning and adapting.
