Her Story
About Angela
I've been in the legal sector for over 16 years, and I've always held administrative roles throughout my career. I started at the university and academia level, then moved into the legal sector where I was a trial paralegal. From there, I worked my way up into legal operations and then into the quality assurance division. I'm currently the Senior Director of Quality Assurance at a national defense firm. I've been in this role for about 5 years and with the company for about 8 years. My day-to-day involves overseeing the quality assurance department, which has 4 different divisions. We're really focusing on client intelligence, compliance, auditing, and risk mitigation. Throughout my career, I think the amount of folks that I've been able to train and mentor along the way has been one of my proudest moments. I've held a lot of positions in the nonprofit sector in my free time. I was the past president of the Paralegal Association for 2 years, and I've done a few keynotes. Just being able to impact others and advocate and fight for justice for our clients, or any individuals that are underrepresented in the legal system, that's been probably the biggest highlight for me. I studied philosophy with an emphasis on law, and that's what I graduated into. I knew that I wanted to do something that was pursuing justice or knowledge or just information, but I didn't know that it was going to lead me to the legal field. I'm very grateful for it, though.

Ten minutes with Angela
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think my tenacity and my curiosity. I really believe that there is a solution for everything, and when there's a way, there's a... where there's a will, there's a way. So, I'm constantly just trying to stress test the status quo and figure out how I can continue to level up. And I have a really strong foundation in gratitude, so I see a silver lining in any situation, and I just stay hyper-focused on that.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Not to be afraid to ask questions, not to be afraid to be curious, and to definitely invest time into themselves, into their learning, and to be very mindful of who they surround themselves with as well. To make sure that you're in a place that's nourishing for you on a professional level, but also on a very personal level to balance out that wellness.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think people need to focus on their identity and understanding their value and their worth that they bring. Comparisons are theft of joy, and it just sets you back. And so being able to focus on your goals, and what you want to achieve, and how to achieve them without necessarily comparing to where other people might be at is a really big eye-opener and can really work to your advantage. Everyone has a different journey and a different path. And staying focused on your own, while leveling up is, I think, golden.
