Director/Local Representative, Classical Conversations

Her Story
About Azelia
I've been with Classical Conversations for 13 years now, starting as a director for 7 years before becoming a local representative 9 years ago. Currently, I do both roles - I direct Challenge 4, which is the 12th grade level, and I oversee two communities as a local representative. My work is very flexible and involves recruiting families who have expressed interest in homeschooling through our leads on HubSpot. I reach out to them multiple times using a 7-touch marketing approach. I also contract with licensed community directors who are essentially small business owners, and they contract tutors under them. It's similar to a franchise model where you can have one community in each neighborhood to provide access to families. What I find most rewarding is pointing people to the same blessing that I've had as a homeschooler - these are years that I'll never get back, and I'm glad that I was able to have the time with my children. The local representative position helps me fulfill what my faith calls the Great Commission, to go and tell and make disciples. Our mission is to know God and make Him known. When a door closed on the opportunity to be a missionary with my family in Peru, I still wanted to channel my heart for missions, and this is the way the Lord channeled my heart for missions.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Azelia
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received came from the administration at a Christian school where I interviewed to be a Spanish teacher. He hired me, but he encouraged me to homeschool instead. He had homeschooled his 5 boys, and that advice completely changed my path. That's what started me with homeschooling and led me to this aspect of this company. It was unexpected advice during a job interview, but it opened up a whole new direction for my life and allowed me to give my children the faith-based education I never had growing up.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important value to me is fulfilling the Great Commission - to go and tell and make disciples. Our mission at Classical Conversations is to know God and make Him known, and that's what drives everything I do. I've always had a heart for missions, and when the door closed on the opportunity to be a missionary with my family in Peru, I still wanted to channel that calling. The local representative position allows me to do that by helping families access faith-based education for their children. I didn't have a faith-based education growing up, and I wanted that for my children. Now I get to be a blessing to other people by pointing them to the same blessing I've had as a homeschooler - those precious years with my children that I'll never get back. People poured into me when I was younger, and now I'm giving back, especially when it comes to working with youth.
