Her Story
About Brooke
I'm a first-generation college graduate who earned my degree in early childhood education in December 2024. While my educational background is in teaching, my career journey led me to property management in an unexpected but fulfilling way. During college, I supported myself through waitressing and took temp assignments at properties during summer breaks through Liberty Group (RPM). After graduating, I faced challenges finding teaching positions without completing my certifications, which would have required 40 unpaid hours per week for 16 weeks that I couldn't afford. When my former property manager Caitlin, who had become regional manager, reached out about a position in New Braunfels, it felt like a saving grace. Since joining that property, I've earned leasing associate of the month five times across our seven-property portfolio. I've never had a job where I felt so recognized and appreciated for my work. I'm passionate about the marketing and social media side of property management and am looking forward to continuing to grow in this field, potentially exploring behind-the-scenes roles at the corporate office in Austin. Outside of work, I'm also an artist. I bring compassion and the classroom management skills from my education degree into my daily work, which helps me handle the fast-paced environment and intense emotions that come with being at the front desk.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges I've encountered is handling and juggling certain tasks and multitasking, because in property management, it's such a fast-paced environment. You really have to roll with the punches and not take things personally. As a leasing consultant at the front, I'm getting all of those first intense emotions from residents or anybody that walks in my door, and sometimes those moments can shake you a little bit. The first thought I always have when somebody comes in with a negative tone is to think about what happened to this person before they came in here to be treating me this way. I lead with compassion and remind myself that I didn't personally hurt them, so this is coming from somewhere else. That helps me understand where those emotions are coming from and not take it personally. I also have to juggle relationships with residents, events and planning, and the admin side of things. It's different every day. There are times I've stayed overtime, and then I have to sit there and really be like, this is gonna be here tomorrow, I did my best today. I have to realize I'm not a machine, I'm human. I have to have my breaks and allow space to recharge, because if I don't do that, it really shows in your work and how you're moving in the world.
