Cassandra Fasman, CCRP, is an accomplished Clinical Trial Manager at Bristol Myers Squibb, with over six years of experience in clinical research and operations. She began her career in an unexpected way during high school, when a hospital research coordinator internship shifted her path from nursing to public health. That formative experience sparked a passion for clinical research, which she further developed through college, mentorship, and progressive roles in the pharmaceutical industry. Today, Cassandra combines operational expertise with regulatory rigor to ensure clinical trials are conducted efficiently, safely, and with the highest standards of quality.

In her current role at Bristol Myers Squibb, Cassandra manages site recruitment and activation for an adolescent schizophrenia study. She oversees regulatory documentation, vendor access coordination, and rater qualification for study scales, ensuring that each site operates effectively and in compliance with protocol requirements. Prior to this, she held positions as a Clinical Trial Associate and Senior Study Start-Up Specialist, and earlier worked as a Clinical Coordinator at Johnson & Johnson, gaining valuable experience in operational execution and client-facing clinical research initiatives. Her expertise spans clinical trial management, regulatory compliance, site activation, and public health, with a strong commitment to participant safety and study integrity.

Cassandra is a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) through SOCRA, reflecting her dedication to mastery and professional excellence. She is also an active volunteer, participating in philanthropic initiatives such as the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation Coast-to-Coast cycling event, which raised funds for cancer research through the V Foundation. Passionate about mentorship and empowering the next generation, she encourages young professionals to be organized, detail-oriented, and confident in speaking up to improve processes and protect patients. Outside of work, Cassandra enjoys cycling, gardening, baking, and camping with her husband, blending a life of purpose, service, and personal fulfillment.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a formative high-school internship with a hospital research coordinator, which opened my eyes to clinical research and shifted my career path from nursing to public health. Longstanding mentorship and focused professional development, including studying for and earning my CCRP through SOCRA, have been central to my growth.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

High school internship with research coordinator described as "most impactful"
Mentor still in daily contact, attended my wedding 6 months ago
Demonstrates lasting impact of early career guidance

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to be very organized and detail-oriented. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, give your opinion, or suggest improvements. Clinical research is not always black and white, and speaking up can prevent mistakes that impact patients. Confidence in advocating for accuracy and quality is essential.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is the lack of public awareness about clinical research and public health despite their critical importance. Many people don’t realize the behind-the-scenes work required to bring medications and interventions to market. An important opportunity is attracting young professionals, including recent graduates, to strengthen and diversify the field.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Organization, attention to detail, mentorship, and service to others are central to my values. Protecting the participant experience and ensuring patient safety are paramount in my professional life. Outside work, I enjoy spending time with my husband camping, gardening, baking, and pursuing cycling as a hobby.
