Her Interview

Ten minutes with Cecelia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to having a strong support system, especially my children, who continually inspire me to keep going. They have witnessed my experiences through life's challenges, including financial difficulties, car repossessions, divorce, and the many unexpected ups and downs along the way. Seeing them believe in me motivates me to get up every day and strive to become better for them. They remind me that even when life becomes difficult, I must keep moving forward and give my best. Our motto is make it or make it no excuses. My faith is also the foundation of who I am. I am deeply grateful to my pastors, Bishop Kevin Willis and Dr. Linda Willis of New Life of Memphis, whose teachings have greatly influenced my outlook on life. Their guidance has helped me remain grounded whenever challenges arise. I have learned that life is not always easy, but with faith, perseverance, and the right support system, it is possible to overcome difficult circumstances and continue pursuing my purpose.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received came from my late grandfather. During a time when I felt overwhelmed and frustrated because I was trying different things but could not seem to figure out my path, he told me, "You are trying to figure life out. You have to live it out."

That advice changed my perspective. I realized that I did not have to control every outcome or have everything figured out before taking action. Sometimes, I simply needed to take the first step, even when I was afraid or uncertain. Whether it meant submitting an application for an opportunity or trying something completely new, I learned to ask myself, "What if you succeed?"

This lesson became the foundation of my CCARES philosophy: Learn it, apply it, and live it. I believe in continuously learning, putting that knowledge into practice, and applying it to everyday life. Growth comes from taking action rather than waiting for the perfect moment.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to ask themselves one important question: "What if you succeed?" There will be challenges, uncertainties, and moments when fear or self-doubt make you question your abilities. However, those feelings should never determine how far you can go. You may have to work late, wake up early, or step outside your comfort zone, but you should not allow fear to stop you from pursuing your goals.

I also believe that your experiences, lessons, and personal stories can become valuable resources for others. Sometimes, what we go through is not just for our own growth; it can help someone else avoid similar challenges or find the encouragement they need. That is why I encourage women to keep learning, maintain a strong support system, and recognize the value of what they have to offer.

Most importantly, do not wait until you feel completely ready. Start where you are, even if you have only one idea or one small step to take. Celebrate your small victories, continue developing yourself, and remember that fear and doubt may be present, but they do not have to control your decisions.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are faith, love, creativity, encouragement, and helping others. I genuinely enjoy creating things, listening to music, and finding ways to bring positivity into people's lives. Whether through my businesses, personal development work, or everyday interactions, I want to encourage others and bring a little sunshine wherever I go.

Creativity is especially important to me, which is why I started another business focused on customized keepsakes during the COVID-19 pandemic. I enjoy exploring new ideas, creating meaningful products, and finding opportunities to help people. I also value being authentic, joyful, and approachable. I love dancing, being silly, and enjoying life, especially with my three children, who continually motivate and inspire me.

Ultimately, I want my work and personal life to reflect my commitment to helping people, encouraging growth, and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
