Her Story

About Courtney

I've been in the media and entertainment industry for 22 years, starting right out of college in 2004. I've always had a love for entertainment - I was in drama club as a kid, had a music internship with Sony during college, and when I originally got my position in the business, I was put on the Warner Brothers theatrical account. So even though I wasn't directly tied to music or movies, I was doing the advertising for it, which has always connected back to my passion for entertainment. Today, as VP Managing Director of Video Investment at Horizon Media, I serve as the investment lead on the Lionsgate account, where I oversee national video advertising for the movie studio. We just came off an incredible box office opening weekend with the Michael Jackson biopic, which is definitely the highlight of my career. I was a key player in negotiating a 360 partnership with Paramount that brought back MTV News to pay homage to Michael with a nostalgic feel. We created custom content with Bill Bellamy coming back as the VJ who originally interviewed Michael back in the 90s, and as a payout at the end, we had Bill on the red carpet at the premiere interviewing the cast. The partnership celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Billie Jean video on MTV and the Thriller video, with threads running all the way through to the premiere. What I love most about my work is the fast pace and thriving under pressure - getting last-minute projects on air right away and knowing the client will be happy at the end of the day.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think my success comes from my passion for what I do and my passion for creating a well rounded team. I feel like you're not successful until you have a solid foundation and team, and I pride myself in that - as long as my team is happy, I'm happy, and the client's happy, we all win. I definitely give my all to whatever project is put in front of me and do it with pride. I have a very solid work ethic, and at this stage, kind of an old-school mentality of you work hard, but you also can have fun at the same time. I try to have my team enjoy this time and what we do, and not just be bogged down by Excel charts and the work, but also enjoy the industry at the same time. My dad has been a huge influence - he was an executive for a long time and instilled in me core values such as a strong work ethic, always doing the right thing, and making sure everyone's respectful. And my mom also has been a key influence in my life and a part of who I am today.
