About Deb
I founded Focus Point Communications 9 years ago, and I serve as the chief business strategist. We work globally in the marketing and communications field, specializing in making sure that the visibility of businesses reflects their authentic presence. This means ensuring that when someone searches for your business on Google, ChatGPT, or any platform, your products and services appear where your ultimate customer and client are located. My main areas of expertise include modern marketing, website design and development, and generative engine optimization with AI - helping businesses know what's being said about them and ensuring it's accurate. One of my most rewarding projects has been working with a brand new school in the area. Over the time we've provided their marketing and messaging, they've fundraised over $3 million and grown from 0 students to 150 students in four years. It's one of those really feel-good projects where they're doing a great thing, and working with a client that is willing to follow your lead and trust you, seeing the fruits of the labor and hard work come together with great people. My husband and I are entrepreneurs at heart - we currently own four businesses between us, including a farm where we're heading into strawberry season. We love being part of that creative process and always have the next idea.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Deb
01What do you attribute your success to?
I definitely attribute my success to grit. Success comes from learning from your failures and being able to iterate quickly, and then knowing how to react with confidence and not being afraid that more lessons of learning are constantly going to be happening. Pairing that with authentic relationships with individuals who you find are there to support you, who will appropriately refer you, and you provide value - that has definitely been my mixture for success each and every day.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Hunker down. What I do with websites and Google and social media wasn't even available in 2000 when I graduated, which is crazy. Here I am, 9 years later, making a beautiful living and life from the business. It's understanding that as you head into anything within marketing and messaging, it's gonna change. No different than you and I can remember the payphone - that's the trajectory of technology. I missed the era where we could sit down and just buy the yellow book ad and be done with your marketing for the year. It's a moving pace where wherever you're graduating from is a foundation, but you are not done learning. Everything single day needs to be taken as a new learning opportunity to be able to serve yourself and your customers to the best of your capabilities.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Our priorities are faith, family, and then everything else. All that work and all the business is to build up and make sure that we can keep our priorities in order.
