Deborah Lee Darling is the owner of Find a Darling Home LLC based in Brownstown Township, Michigan, and a real estate professional with seven years of experience helping clients navigate significant life transitions. Before entering real estate, she dedicated 23 years to ophthalmology at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, where she developed a strong foundation in service, communication, and caring for others. Today, she brings that same compassion and expertise to real estate, specializing in helping empty nesters downsize, as well as assisting clients navigating divorce, inherited properties, and other major changes that impact their housing needs.

Deborah earned her real estate license through the Michigan Institute of Real Estate and holds the prestigious CRS (Certified Residential Specialist) designation, along with specialized certifications in divorce, probate, and military relocation. She began her real estate career with RE/MAX Masters in Flat Rock before joining eXp Realty, where she has grown her business and built a team of five agents. 01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to having the right partner in life, my husband, who has been an incredible source of support, encouragement, and perspective. He has been my trusted sounding board, helping me see my vision more clearly, navigate challenges, and approach obstacles with confidence and resilience. His belief in me has allowed me to continue growing through the many moving parts of the real estate industry while staying focused on my goals and purpose. Having that strong foundation of partnership and support has played an important role in my ability to adapt, persevere, and build a successful career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received is to listen, be an active listener, constantly learn, always have your eyes wide open, and have a mentor to help shape your business. Tina Caul has been my biggest influence with her Freedom Builders system for time management while keeping family front and center, and she has empowered women in the industry.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the real estate industry is to seek out the right mentor and surround yourself with people who will support your growth. Having guidance from someone with experience can make a tremendous difference in understanding the industry and building a strong foundation. Take the time to do your research and learn the many moving parts of real estate, from market knowledge and client relationships to business strategy and operations. There is a lot of information and noise in this field, and without following the right steps in the right order, it can be easy to become overwhelmed or lose focus. Stay committed to learning, remain adaptable, and build your career with intention, integrity, and confidence.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in real estate today are adapting to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, increasing competition for online visibility, and navigating the complexities of an ever-changing digital landscape. With so many platforms, evolving technologies, cloud-based brokerages, and changes in search visibility, it can be challenging for professionals to establish themselves as trusted local experts. However, these challenges also create significant opportunities. Real estate professionals who embrace innovation and explore multiple streams of income can expand their reach, strengthen their businesses, and create new ways to serve their clients. By staying adaptable, continuing to learn, and leveraging the right tools and strategies, there are tremendous opportunities for growth in the industry.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most in both my work and personal life are clarity, compassion, accountability, honesty, community, and trust. I believe in creating clarity over confusion, which is reflected in my 5 C’s to Clarity framework that helps people make confident decisions during important life transitions. Compassion is at the heart of how I serve others, especially when guiding clients through emotional changes such as downsizing, relocation, divorce, or inherited homes. I believe in holding myself accountable, communicating with honesty and integrity, and building strong relationships rooted in trust. Staying connected to my community and fostering meaningful partnerships allow me to serve with purpose, ensuring that every client feels supported, valued, and confident throughout their journey.
