Her Story
About Delrita
I've been in my field for about 5-6 years now. Before entering the media world, I was working in pharmaceuticals with a strong STEM background. My transition happened when a friend who was a YouTuber wanted to do a really big science video with explosions and asked me to produce it because of my background. From there, it just took off, and I started producing ever since. Now I'm a producer and production manager for Jordan Matter and Salish Matter, the second largest YouTube channel in North America. Every day looks different - one day it could be scouting studios, meetings all day, emails, dealing with talent coming in and out, and I do a lot of work on the casting side. It could be building out creative sets, like when we transformed the bottom of a trampoline into a pool and worked with Khloe Kardashian, or figuring out how to intertwine different brand deals thematically. My job is very all-encompassing. The biggest part of my job is to bring creative ideas into fruition from pre-production to post-production and anything needed to build those teams. We produce videos on a weekly basis, so you have to get really creative with the tools given to you.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Delrita
01What do you attribute your success to?
I keep coming back to the element of having fun and maintaining a low resistance mentally to all the things that come to you. It's like a fluidity. I read a lot of sports psychology books, and the more resistance you have to something, it's just a bit more difficult. So if you can lean into the fun aspects, or what brings you joy, everything else is so much easier. I know that sounds cliche, but even in the difficult moments, or when a project is really hard, finding one thing that brings you excitement makes anything just 10 times easier. It brings you more yeses and more opportunities when you are just more joyful, so bringing joy into every day is definitely key.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
What really helped me was just coming in excited and open-minded to solving problems, because I was like, this is just a really fun project. I think if you're coming into this industry, people really value those who have the let's-figure-it-out mindset. Our industry is still fairly new, and so we're just figuring it out day by day, myself included, still to this day. I think that is kind of the major unlock, is just a willingness to help problem solve and be one step ahead. You have to be super flexible and very open-minded because we produce videos on a weekly basis, so you have to get really creative with the tools given to you.
