Her Story

About Denisse

I am 34 years old and live in New Jersey. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, dancing, bike riding, reading, and painting. I have a strong love for learning, meeting new people, and growing through new experiences. My faith is very important to me, and I strive to learn God’s word and apply its teachings to my daily life.

Family is a central part of who I am. I have been married to my husband, Luis, for 12 years, and together we are raising our two daughters, Kayla (11) and Alyssa (9). Being a wife and mother deeply influences my approach to education, strengthening my belief in the power of faith, meaningful relationships, and a supportive community in helping children thrive.

01What do you attribute your success to?

The things I attribute to my success are my passion and love for teaching. I have always wanted to do more to help other people be successful and feel seen, valued, and capable of reaching their goals. Teaching, for me, is not just about sharing knowledge, but about building meaningful connections, fostering confidence, and creating spaces where others feel supported and encouraged to grow. I also attribute my success to the unwavering support of my family and friends, who have consistently believed in me, encouraged me during challenging moments, and celebrated my achievements alongside me. Above all, I am grateful to God for guiding my path and leading me into a career that I truly love and feel called to pursue.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve ever received is that mistakes don’t stop success—they help shape it. Learn from them, grow, and keep going.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The advice I would give to young women entering education is this: teaching is only part of the job. The real work happens in the patience you show, the compassion you lead with, and the care you bring into the classroom each day. You have to truly love what you do—especially on the days that test you—and always remember why you chose this path. Every lesson, conversation, and small moment leaves a mark, even when you don’t see it right away. And once you start to feel confident in your teaching, don’t forget to turn around and lift up those who are just starting out. An educator never really stops teaching—the audience just grows.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in education today is meeting the diverse needs of all students in an ever-changing learning environment. Classrooms have become more varied in learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and social-emotional needs, and it can be difficult to ensure every student feels supported, engaged, and successful. Additionally, keeping up with evolving technology while maintaining meaningful human connection requires thoughtful balance and ongoing professional growth.

At the same time, educators are given the opportunity to serve their students in new and meaningful ways through connection and relationship-building. As educators, we are able to witness the growth in our students and know that, in some way, we played a role in helping them reach their potential.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me, both in my work and in my personal life, are rooted in my love for God and my desire to grow more like Him each day. This guides how I show kindness, love, and compassion to others, and how I strive to remind people of their inherent value and purpose. I deeply value my family and the importance of building meaningful, authentic relationships. I want the people around me to feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. I also value treating everyone with respect and grace, and I am continually learning to let go of negativity and extend understanding, forgiveness, and patience in my daily interactions.
