Her Story

About Eunice

I have always been in the sales and marketing field ever since I was interning in my college years. I was always interested in fashion and beauty, so my last 10-plus years have been in a lot of brands spanning from skincare to fast fashion makeup to premium hair care, anything that really falls into the world of fashion and beauty. Today I am at The Flex Company, a modern period care brand. I started with them at the end of last year. Although my personal interests lie in fashion and beauty, I really wanted to use my expertise to help a brand that I think is actually changing women's lives, so I decided to move into the startup world and take my expertise in the sales and marketing space and work for a brand that I really think should be in a lot more households and that a lot more women should know about. My main area of expertise is omnichannel sales in the digital space, helping drive revenue in marketplaces and D2C from an omnichannel lens for brands, a sweet little mixture of sales and marketing. My key responsibilities include finding the right balance of what channels have the right to win when it comes to marketplaces like Walmart.com and Target.com, ensuring we as a brand are not competing against ourselves in these channels, managing paid media marketing, and most importantly, people management, ensuring that my team members are getting the right education and training to be able to grow in the space.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to all the people that have supported me, especially my parents, my closest friends, and my partner. But I would also say my own resilience and my own eagerness to grow. My parents used to always say, stop looking left and right, just look forward. If you are in the right place, that's a good place to be, versus having negative thoughts by looking left and right. I would probably attribute some of that to myself and my own resilience. But then there's also my mentors. I can probably think of two people in my life, and without them being my directors at the time or the general manager that I reported into, I don't know that I would be where I am today or the person I am today in my career. They were maybe the best managers that supported me and really believed in me, and that in itself helped me believe in myself and move forward.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is don't over-promise and under-deliver. I know it sounds cliche, but it really stuck with me and always sticks with me. I'm a very impatient person and I would like to get a lot of things done at a given time. I'm also one to take on a lot of projects because I want to, but I am also guilty of setting myself up for failure when I tell my cross-functional teams or my managers that I can do it in 2 days or have it by the end of the week when it's actually a month-long project. So I always try to keep that top of mind, where I shouldn't be over-promising and under-delivering. It's better to be realistic or give yourself more time and come in a bit earlier.
