About Genesis
Genesis Rice is a Vertical Startup Lead in food manufacturing operations, based in Orland Park, Illinois. She has spent nearly six years with her company, beginning as a machine operator and advancing through the ranks to production supervisor, acting line lead, and her present position. In her current role, she leads startup activities for manufacturing lines, guiding through full production ramp-up while coordinating engineering, quality, maintenance, and production teams. Her earlier leadership roles gave her a strong foundation in shift planning, waste reduction, employee oversight, and collaboration with maintenance, and she has stepped in to cover line lead duties during staffing shortages. She is known for applying TPM, Six Sigma, and root cause problem-solving methods to eliminate losses and stabilize performance, and her efforts have improved operational efficiency by 8 percent on the shifts she has led. Holding a team lead certification and two manager’s awards for taking on responsibilities beyond her role, she is recognized as a supportive and engaged leader who builds strong, accountable teams. Rice credits her success to resilience and determination to show her children that anything is possible and to believe in yourself, even if there is an audience who doesn’t . She believes the field’s greatest opportunity lies in communication and team building. Outside of work, she enjoys the gym, nature walks, reading, and time with her children.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Genesis
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to resilience, inner strength, and a refusal to give up. I am driven to provide for my children and to show them that anything is possible when you commit your mind to it even when some may not believe in your capabilities
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I have received is that if you have an opportunity why not take it instead of living with the “ what if’s “ even if the outcome is not the one you expected to have . You will never know unless you try
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give up, leadership isn't just a title or a degree. Its the chance to grow and the ability to overcome adversity and the impact you have on the people around you. Fight for what you want, if you really want something, you have to be hungry enough to never give up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The greatest opportunity I see is in communication and team building, rather than focusing solely on numbers and KPIs.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Loyalty, honesty, communication and getting to the root of a problem so we can move forward are the values I hold most dear in order to over come any obstacles I might face both personally and professionally
