Her Story

About Kapria

I have been doing this work since 2016, and I recently rebranded myself as a wealth behavioral strategist after feeling that 'financial therapist' wasn't clear enough. I came into the space of financial therapy a couple years ago, not knowing you could go to school and get a whole degree for it. Now I'm almost done with my financial therapy certificate. The aspect of what I do is really work with people who want to build their wealth but are standing in their own way. There are psychological aspects that go behind money, the value of money, and how we place our value compared to the money we have or don't have. Wealth is such a vast term - people think of wealth as being rich, but there are other ways you could be wealthy. Even people who aren't as established still have wealth. Let's talk about how to accumulate that wealth without our behaviors negatively affecting the outcome of our money. I operate very flexibly, planning my week on Sundays to determine which clients to reach out to. Most of my clients are retainer-based, which I love because it's guaranteed income without the stress of a 9 to 5. I schedule my week by different hats - CEO days for planning and professional development, personality days for content recording, and client days. I can't do all of them on the same day, so I plan exactly which hat I'm wearing each day.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I spoke at the AFCPE conference about how to integrate financial therapy when working with clients. The good thing about speaking there is that I was speaking with like-minded individuals, and they could see how important this work is. The disadvantage is I'm speaking with like-minded individuals - they already see the value. But now I am going into spaces like financial advising and wealth building, and banking, and other traditional wealth aspects, but they don't have the non-traditional aspect of wealth, like the human behaviors and the psychological aspects. I want to be invited to the table, because I have a seat at the table. My seat is very beautiful and large, because I have a lot to say. I'm going to DC in June to do some advocacy around finances, and I really want to meet other politicians and people who are in the spaces making these decisions. I want to let them know that the decisions that they're making for us suck, and we need to have better choices for women, for people of color, for people who are not the rich 1% or politician.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I love nature and the beauty of it all. I like the mystery, but I also like the expectation of it, like coming into spring. It's representative of the way that I actually operate. I do a lot of work and behind-the-scenes stuff in the winter, and then spring, summer, it's time for our seeds to bloom. I'm a spiritual person, and I'm redefining my spirituality every day. I show my kids that you don't have to tear up the whole neighborhood to prove a point, but you could go vote, you can go out there and encourage people to vote, you can go to the Capitol, you can do other things that are non-violent, but still says, hey, we have a right, and we're pissed, and we want to change these things. I want my podcast to grow organically. I don't want bots, or I don't want paid followers. I know I have a seat at the table, but no one told me where my seat is, so I'm going through podcasts, I'm on LinkedIn, and I'm going to find my seat.
