Her Story
About Kimberly
I've been working in customer service for over 12 years now, and I'm currently a Senior Customer Service Representative at Terminix, where I've been for about 4 months. Throughout my career, I've really been in customer service, doing system manager positions and working as a patient service representative where I helped patients get medication. My typical day involves talking to customers, taking inbound calls, scheduling appointments for technicians to go out to customers' homes, handling escalations, and processing payments. I work from home, and it's a pretty laid-back job. I graduated college with two associate's degrees - one in Health Information Technology and one in Medical Administration Associates - which I consider my most notable professional achievement. While in school, I was honored with Alpha Kappa Beta. My focus is on being financially stable and making sure that me and my girls have any and everything we want without having to worry about the hardship of it.

Ten minutes with Kimberly
01What do you attribute your success to?
Being financially stable is what I attribute my success to. Making sure that me and my girls have any and everything we want without having to worry about the hardship of it. Basically, if I want to go on a trip here and there, I can go with no problems. It's definitely not about what you know, it's about who you know. You never know what the next person needs you for. Somebody could be depending on your story just to make it through, and if someone else is sharing your story, then they already know something about you and they can definitely learn from you. Sometimes you might can find new friends, new job opportunities through those connections.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say take it one step at a time, one call at a time, and don't take anything personal. Because we're working with customers, you can have good days and you can have bad days, so don't take anything personal and always keep going. I know that's not always easy to do with some customers, but it's important advice for this field.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is getting started, especially getting your foot into that work-from-home feel. I work from home, so once you're in, you're good as golden. You can get any work-from-home job that you set yourself up for, in my opinion. If that's a position that you're looking for, work for it, work towards it, and you'll definitely achieve it.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important value to me is being financially stable and making sure that me and my girls have any and everything we want without having to worry about the hardship of it. Basically, if I want to go on a trip here and there, I can go with no problems. I also believe that it's not about what you know, it's about who you know. You never know what the next person needs you for - somebody could be depending on your story just to make it through. When someone else is sharing your story, they already know something about you and they can definitely learn from you. Sometimes you might can find new friends and new job opportunities through those connections.
