Her Story

About Krista

I've been in the healthcare field for over 17 years, starting as a nurse working in critical care at a hospital. During that time, I saw how many patients kept coming back for things that are preventable, but they never got education or support around how to make changes, or they didn't even know they could have an impact on their health. It was discouraging to see how broken our healthcare system is. That's what prompted me to look at other areas and try to go to preventative care. I found that the Board of Nursing offers a health and wellness coaching certification, so I got that and transitioned over to health coaching. Now I help people learn about how they can affect their health. Some of it seems kind of common sense or intuitive, like don't drink 12 sodas and be healthy, but it's been surprising how little people know because we're never taught about nutrition or how different things can affect your health. For the past 2 years, I've been running my own business, Radiant Path Coach, where I do one-on-one coaching with clients. My typical day involves an hour or two of admin work in the mornings, then client calls from mid-morning through the afternoon. I have an hour call with everybody once a week, and after their call, I get their resources together, meal plans, or whatever we talked about. I'm working on adding more different programs to my business. I live in northwest Montana, which is perfect for my lifestyle since I love being outside - hiking, biking, fishing, pretty much anything outdoors.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think the thing I'm most proud of is this transition, because once you're a nurse, it's so hard to leave that. I was in the hospital for so long that any type of change is looked at almost like, oh, you're gonna lose all your skills, you're gonna quit nursing. So I think it takes a lot of bravery for people to switch over. I don't know, I feel like there's just so much pressure. But stepping out on my own and making this change to actually get to the root of health issues rather than just treating symptoms - that's what I'm proud of. I saw patients come in and out with the same issues, and I just had to treat their symptoms and do the same wheel, and then I'd see them back again. Now I'm actually trying to get to the root of everything and help people prevent illness before it happens.
