Her Story

About Krysta

I've been in healthcare for about 10 years now, and my journey started at the very bottom. I entered as a temporary employee during a transitional period as a front desk operator, and from there I worked my way up through every level - from temporary registrar to administrative assistant, then executive assistant, manager, and finally to director. What led me to healthcare was my mother, who was in the field, and I've always been someone who wanted to be able to help others. I felt that healthcare was that path for me. Today, I oversee 16 locations in primary care and medical specialties, and I really look at my job as leading my teams to bridge the gaps in healthcare. We're making patient access available to everyone in the various locations throughout our communities, and I'm really focused on ensuring that our patients feel comfortable in our practices and that the communication coming from our practices is the best. My day-to-day operations involve making sure that our practices are running smoothly, our providers are happy and have what they need, and my practice leaders have the best support from me as possible. Even though I hold a director role, I don't find myself above any position - if I need to be in my practices to support them when they're short-staffed, checking in patients, I'll do that. My team knows that. What I love most about my work is making an impact on the people I work with and helping them grow. Every day when I have someone come to me who wants to be in my shoes someday, if I can help them get there, that's what I want to do.

Ten minutes with Krysta

01What do you attribute your success to?

To not let the bad days win. You know, everyone's gonna have a bad day, but there are so many good things in the bad days, and you have to take those key takeaways and realize that there is a light, and there is a purpose of what we do here in healthcare, and life in general, really. Just staying motivated and knowing that what I do every day impacts a lot of people - that's what keeps me motivated.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Stay confident. Walk into every room like you own it. It doesn't matter what title you hold right now. Make sure that you embrace the fact that one day, with hard work, dedication, and drive, you will sit in those seats someday. And don't make it an option or a what-if. Know that you will be there one day.
