Her Story
About Kumari
I work as an Applied AI Solutions Manager at Google, where I've been focused on applied AI for about 4 years, though before that I worked in infrastructure, data, and ML. My role centers on customer engagement to implement applied AI-related solutions, specifically building AI agents for large enterprise clients. One of my proudest projects is the AI agent I've led for Best Buy over the past two years. Day to day, I manage teams of field professionals and PSO resources to drive these large enterprise projects, which typically run for a year or more. My work is very much on the leadership side, so I spend a lot of time interacting with C-suite executives from our partners, customers, and within Google itself. Beyond my work at Google, I'm also a journal reviewer for multiple publications, where I get to read new research specifically in applied AI and provide feedback. I've been recognized as Best Performer of the Year within Google, ranking in the Top 50 globally. I'm currently pursuing my MS in AI at the University of Pennsylvania part-time, which I expect to complete this year. I also serve as a judge for hackathons, including at Booth School of Business, and I'm a session presenter for various AI communities.

Ten minutes with Kumari
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think the core reason for my success is mentorship itself. I usually seek mentorship from leaders throughout my whole career, and that has helped me a lot from the career growth standpoint. Learning from other people's experience and how they navigate certain situations has been invaluable. I'm always eager to learn, and I think that really helps drive me towards knowing more. I'm also very hardworking, and sometimes it does take a lot of time and you do lose patience in between, but you just have to keep going and you'll eventually see that it all works out. You'll be able to connect the dots.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to always be eager to learn, because that's how you drive towards knowing more. I've also learned that you have to keep working towards your goals even when it takes a lot of time and you lose patience in between. You just have to keep going, and you'll eventually see that it all works out. You'll be able to connect the dots. Being hardworking and maintaining that eagerness to learn throughout your career is really important.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, get your foundation clear. I think having foundational knowledge is very critical. And then from the career standpoint, keep on learning from others' experience and seek mentorship throughout your career. And of course, don't be afraid of challenges, because the more complex problems you solve, the more you learn. The more you break through and grow faster.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in my field right now is that the approach we follow has to be consolidated and framework-driven to lead to the best possible outcome. Streamlining those approaches is important. On the opportunity side, the biggest opportunity is working in cutting-edge technology. There's a lot going on as we're moving towards AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). Being at the forefront of this is important. There's a lot of research going around, a lot of new models coming out, so knowing about all that and driving towards achieving what it looks like is the key opportunity.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I believe consistency and hard work are very important values to me. Having a long-term vision is also critical - thinking about where I want to be in the next 5 years. When I think about it at a very early stage, like where do I see myself after years, that helps me drive a lot of outcomes and achieve the short-term milestones that are needed to get there. Of course, I can't be there 100%, but at least I'll reach step 9 out of 10. Having that long-term vision of where I want to be in 5 years and working towards that has helped me a lot.
