About Leah

Leah Horgan is a certified health and wellness coach in Boston, Massachusetts. She works with adults, mostly women, to help them navigate major life transitions like divorce, career change, or health diagnosis through one-on-one coaching sessions focused on stress management, mindset rebuilding, and implementing lasting habits. Prior to entering the coaching field, she spent 10 years in website optimization, working with a solar company, a digital agency, and a SaaS company, where she earned her Certified Scrum Master credential. Leah holds a degree in studio art with a major in photography from the University of New Hampshire and studied abroad in a sustainable international ecovillage in India in 2011. She opened her practice in May following completion of the MindBodyGreen coaching program in January. Additionally, she teaches Latin dance and has a history of volunteering with the Rotary Club and at animal shelters.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Leah

01What do you attribute your success to?

A few things, really. I've always been fascinated by human behavior (i.e. why we do what we do, why we get in our own way, what actually helps us change). I love deep thinking and even deeper conversations where you get past the surface and start uncovering what's really going on. That curiosity combined with my empathy is what makes me good at this work.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I've received is to align your career with your values. When your work reflects what actually matters to you, everything feels more meaningful and sustainable. And the other part: treat failures as opportunities to learn and grow, not as proof you're on the wrong path. Some of my biggest setbacks turned out to be the very things that redirected me toward this work. Together, those two ideas of living in alignment with your values and reframing failure have made all the difference, both in my career and in how I coach.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It's one of the most valuable things I've ever done, even on a personal level. I've watched my own mindset shift and my confidence in myself grow. And if you go the health coach route, there are so many directions you can take it. There's a lot of ambiguity in being an entrepreneur, but the coaching training helps with that mindset shift and gives you the confidence to keep pushing forward. It's hard, but it's worth it, and there's nothing like knowing you're making a positive impact in the world.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field is helping people understand what coaching actually is and how much it can help them. I see the value every single day with my clients. I watch them build confidence, follow through on goals they'd been stuck on for years, and genuinely change their lives. But for someone who's never experienced coaching, it's an abstract idea. They're not sure what it is, how it's different from therapy, or why it's worth investing in.

So a big part of my work is showing people what's possible. Once someone experiences even one coaching conversation, it clicks. They feel heard, they leave with clarity and a next step, and they realize this is something that can really move their life forward. The opportunity is huge, because the people who would benefit most often don't yet know coaching is the thing they've been looking for.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Easy! I've put in hours of thought into this one and I keep the list as a screensaver on my phone:

  • Live with integrity
  • Grow continuously
  • Connect deeply
  • Nourish wellbeing

These shape how I work with clients and how I try to live.
