Her Story

About Meagan

I've spent about 9 years in marketing, working primarily in agency settings with startups in the tech and B2B SaaS spaces. I've worked across anything technical at some capacity and have developed deep familiarity with these industries. What drew me to marketing was my love of using words and my recognition that not everybody feels they have the right words or knows how to put their own ideas into words. Being able to help other people tell their own stories in whatever capacity that looks like is something that was really encouraging to me, so it's kind of a passion project more than anything. I believe that marketing is a human frontier at its core, especially now in a world where a lot of things are automated and AI-driven. Being able to help people with that human ability of writing, teaching other people how to be human and make those authentic connections, and building brand equity in ways that are beyond just email, technology, or SMS - I think that nowadays that connection matters more than ever, and that's really what the field of marketing is at the end of the day: meeting them where they are with the stories and making those connections. I'm currently in the final stages of finishing my dissertation for my PhD, which is expected to be completed in November of this year.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Meagan

01What do you attribute your success to?

I wish I could say it was all hard work - I mean, there's definitely part of that - but I do think being willing to put yourself out there for a lot of different opportunities and just trying things has been key. If there's an opportunity that comes up for you to just try something new, just go for it. You might be surprised where it's going to end up taking you. I think that my willingness to say yes to things and, like you were saying earlier, being uncomfortable, has really paid off for me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell people that it's not going to be easy - I wish it was - but future you will look back and be so proud of the fact that you were willing to try it. Take every opportunity available to you. You never know where you're going to end up.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think durability - being able to get back up again - is really important because marketing is reflexive, so you're going to get feedback, whether I'm the one giving it to someone or someone's giving it to me. I think it's really valuable when you can take it and be like, okay, I hear this, let me see what I can do. And then also integrity, because I would like to think that I keep myself to a pretty high standard of that. If you have a question for me, if people want to know more about my methods, whatever it is, I am an open book. If I tell you I want to get something done, I get it done.
