Her Story

About Megan

I've spent 12 years building my career in manufacturing and imports, always focused on making things better and more efficient. I started in imports while juggling school and a full-time job, helping my manager build up the import division at Quantix from a $10 million account to a $35 million account over 7 years. That experience taught me the foundation of process building and efficiency. I then moved to Malco Products as their planner buyer for the new product division, where I had the incredible opportunity to establish a brand new facility from scratch - bringing in equipment, new processes, new products, and new suppliers. After we launched that new product, I transitioned into master scheduling, running production and scheduling for facilities in both Annandale and Nebraska for 3-4 years. Now, as procurement manager at M&I, I handle all purchasing, negotiations, inventory management, imports, and compliance. My biggest professional achievement has been building new processes and procedures for each company - establishing policies for how inventory flows through systems, creating safety stock protocols that are repeatable, and developing automated processes so we're not spending hours doing the same work over and over. I approach every day asking myself: how can I make this better? Even if I can make something 10% better, that's still better than it was today. I apply this same logic at home with my two little kids and my husband, always looking for ways to make things run smoother.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think there's so much of it between how I was raised and then what happened just before I was finishing school. My fiance at the time, now husband, was getting diagnosed with a basically life-changing disease that stopped him from being able to work. I just had - basically not no choice - but I felt the need to put the effort in and take care of all of us. It's really just putting that foot forward and making sure that we're providing the best life that we can for everybody who I love so much. My mother raised me to be such a hard worker from a young age, teaching me to get your work done, get it done right, and put that best foot forward at all times. That foundation, combined with the responsibility I took on when my husband couldn't work anymore, has driven me to step up and provide for my family.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Focus in on what is going to make tomorrow better. It's finding the things that - I do this every single day - how can I make this better? How can I make that better? And even if I can make it 10% better, that's still better than it was today. I apply that same logic at home too. Okay, what can I do to make my house run smoother? There's things that we can just take off, and if I spend a little bit more time doing this today, that's going to save me so much more time in the future. It's trying to find that balance, so you know what you're doing makes sense for today and for tomorrow.
