Her Story

About Megan

I started my own recruiting company when I was young and built that up to a substantial level, selling the company in 2017 to a private equity firm. I stepped down as CEO when the firm was over 200 employees and about $150 million in revenue. The journey of building a company from scratch was really relevant because in doing that, I learned how to build a business from the jump and all the things required to get a staff of 200 employees, build a business that's attracted to a PE firm, attract PE funding, and then make an exit in the way that I did. Where I got into AI implementation was really to help companies grow and help them utilize new technology to accelerate their revenue faster. I liken it to if I had had the opportunities that AI has provided for growth when I was starting my company, I would have been able to sell my company not only sooner, but for even more money. What I do today is really helping small companies utilize technology that will help them grow faster. My Megan Driscoll consulting firm helps small businesses utilize AI to increase revenue and create sales systems that are set and forget and essentially fully automated. I was just appointed as executive chairman of a PE-backed life science firm called Connect Life Sciences, which is my most notable achievement because it recognizes all the breadth of experience that I've had.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I really credit my success to Davidson. Even though my major was history at this liberal arts college, I learned a lot about how to write, how to think, how to solve problems at Davidson. In doing that, I had to have a significant amount of writing and researching, and what I found is it was very relatable to business. Your ability to write and communicate ideas effectively, both in writing and verbally, was critical in business, and so I learned a lot of business skills even though it had nothing to do technically with what I was doing. Davidson was very well-known for academics, and it was much further out of my league. I only got in because I was a soccer player and I got recruited to play soccer there for their Division I soccer program. I'm very grateful that turned out the way it did.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I get very concerned about AI and its impact on business overall. There are people who believe that 90% of small businesses will be out of business in 3 years if they haven't fully bolted AI into their sales platform and into their programming and the way that they run their business. Women are usually typically late adopters to technology, and so women can't afford to have our female leaders fall further behind. We just can't. I get really concerned about how AI is going to specifically impact female owners and founders and leaders. We can't afford to have our female leaders fall further behind, so I particularly like working with women. I offer mentorship programs for them, I have a mastermind, and I usually provide those things at cost because I want female leaders to be able to succeed.
