Her Story

About Megha

I've been working in healthcare data analysis for about two and a half years. I work in a patient organization where I deal with a lot of patient data. My key responsibilities include segmenting patient information and making sure it's not being leaked through my work. I do mainly reporting and dashboarding, and I also work in the data governance team where I'm responsible for handling the workflows. I do a lot of SQL and create interactive dashboards with colors, visuals, and filters. What I love most about my career is that I'm simplifying data for non-technical people and presenting it in very interesting ways. I can convert boring data into something engaging and interactive. One of my most notable professional achievements is being able to work independently and complete work without much information by doing a lot of research on my own. I always wanted to be in healthcare because when I was young, I wanted to be a doctor, but unfortunately I wasn't able to. Since I also love painting and art, working with visuals and dashboards became the perfect fit for me.

Ten minutes with Megha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm still in the process of building my success, but until now, whatever I've done, I'm happy with my success. I'm still in the process and have a lot more to achieve in the future. I believe that consistency is the key - everyone gets their fruit at the right time. You need to be consistent, have strength and discipline. Even if we do 1% improvement every day, that's the key. Consistency is the most important thing.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is that consistency is the key. Everyone gets their fruit at the right time, so you need to be consistent, have strength and discipline. Even if we do 1% improvement every day, that's the key. I have experienced this myself - consistency is the most important thing.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to women entering healthcare and data analysis is: don't depend on anyone, and be independent. Just do what you like and don't think about what others will think. Never miss an opportunity - whatever it is, just grab it.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In healthcare, there are a lot of opportunities. We have a variety of things to do - there is no end to the imagination, whatever we want to do. With AI coming into the picture, there are tremendous opportunities when we integrate healthcare data with AI, but we should be very careful with AI. The challenges I'm facing include maintaining visa status. Healthcare data is very difficult to work with, but if we do the right research and have domain knowledge to understand what the data is, then it becomes very easy. It is very difficult to understand initially, but with research, we have a lot of opportunities to build multiple dashboards and give insights to physicians or non-technical people with patient information. We can discover a lot of hidden information from the raw data. I do experience burnout, but I personally feel this is the beginning of my career and that's how it is. I'm happy with the work I'm doing right now.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me are listening to others, respecting others' thoughts, and making sure we are not demanding our thoughts to be done. I believe in making sure we listen to other people, respecting each other, and helping each other to learn and grow. That's the best value I would say.
