Her Story

About Muyi

My current role is Director of Product Management with Measure. My daily role and responsibility is to oversee if my product is working as expected, do we need to improve it, and what are the feedbacks we hear from our customers and the users. I look at how they interact with our products, and do they foresee any gaps with the competitive landscape. I have to take care of all those things and then package those as specific documentation. We work very closely with other cross-functional teams, especially the tech support team on data science and engineering, to figure out how do we improve our product over time. I always emphasize the sense of belonging - that's the guiding principle, either for me or my team members. We're all in this together. I think I'm really good at empowering and engaging my team and the cross-functional team members, and keeping them motivated, and providing as much as possible a transparent goal and objective we want to achieve.

Ten minutes with Muyi

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I want to say dream big, dream big, and achieve steady. Make progress on the smaller wins, and then go for the big win. My suggestion is don't think your manager as your boss, but if you treat them as your mentor, you will know a lot, not just the professional, but their personality.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say there are a couple of biggest challenges. Number one, balancing customer requests - they are always overwhelming. Each individual client and customer, they have their own requests. So how do we navigate through all those requests and prioritize the things we need to focus on? That's the number one challenge. And number two is bandwidth and capacity. The team is limited, and everyone is dedicating to so many things, and so how do we get things prioritized, and how do we allocate resources to support what we need to accomplish.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I always emphasize the sense of belonging. That's the guiding principle, either for me or my team members. The sense of belonging, you have to feel it. I always say, we're all in this together. I really like that kind of engagement. I think I'm really good at empowering and engaging my team and the cross-functional team members, and keeping them motivated, and providing as much as possible a transparent goal and objective we want to achieve. Outside of work, I'm a huge believer that everyone needs some rest, and spending time with family really helps us recharge ourselves to be a better version of ourselves and get back to work.
