Her Interview
Ten minutes with Nidhi
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a strong work ethic, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning. Throughout my career in compliance, I have focused on understanding not only regulatory requirements but also the operational impact they have on the business. This has enabled me to develop practical, risk-based solutions that strengthen compliance while supporting business objectives.
I also believe in taking ownership of challenges. Whether it has been building new AML and OFAC monitoring processes, implementing compliance controls, or leading cross-functional initiatives, I approach every project with accountability, attention to detail, and a solution-oriented mindset.
Another key factor has been my willingness to keep learning and adapting. The regulatory landscape is constantly evolving, so I invest in professional development, stay informed on emerging risks, and actively collaborate with colleagues and industry professionals. Serving on the ACAMS Houston Chapter board has further strengthened my leadership skills and broadened my perspective.
Above all, I strive to build trust through integrity, consistency, and delivering high-quality work. I believe that long-term success comes from doing the right thing, treating people with respect, and continuously looking for ways to improve both personally and professionally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is: "Never stop learning, always let integrity guide my decision, and believe in myself with confidence."
That advice has shaped my career in compliance. Regulations, technology, and risks are constantly evolving, so staying curious and continuously developing new skills has been essential. At the same time, integrity is the foundation of effective compliance. There are times when making the right decision isn't the easiest or most popular choice, but earning trust through ethical leadership and sound judgment creates long-term credibility.
I've also learned that success isn't just about technical expertise—it's about building relationships, communicating effectively, and helping the business achieve its goals while managing risk. Focusing on continuous improvement, collaboration, and doing the right thing has opened opportunities for growth and leadership throughout my career. Believing in myself with confidence has also been important, because it has helped me take on new challenges, trust my abilities, and keep moving forward with purpose.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the compliance and financial services industry is to invest in your knowledge, believe in your abilities, and never stop learning. Regulations, technology, and financial crime risks are constantly evolving, so continuous learning will set you apart and help you build confidence in your expertise.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, share your ideas, or take on challenging assignments. Some of the greatest opportunities for growth come from stepping outside your comfort zone. Seek mentors who will challenge and support you, but also be willing to advocate for yourself and your accomplishments.
Most importantly, lead with integrity. Your reputation is one of your most valuable assets in compliance. People may forget a project, but they will remember whether you were honest, dependable, and fair. Build strong relationships, communicate with confidence, and stay true to your values.
Finally, remember that success is a journey, not a destination. Every experience—whether it's a success or a setback—is an opportunity to learn, grow, and become a stronger leader. Believe in yourself, stay resilient, and don't let anyone define your potential. Your voice, perspective, and leadership can make a meaningful impact on your organization and the industry.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The compliance and financial crime landscape is evolving faster than ever, creating both significant challenges and exciting opportunities.
One of the biggest challenges is keeping pace with increasingly sophisticated financial crime schemes. Criminals are leveraging emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to commit fraud, identity theft, and money laundering in more complex ways. At the same time, regulatory expectations continue to evolve, requiring organizations to strengthen their governance, risk management, and compliance programs while maintaining operational efficiency.
Another challenge is balancing effective risk management with a positive customer experience. Organizations must protect against financial crime without creating unnecessary friction for legitimate customers. Achieving that balance requires strong collaboration between compliance, operations, technology, and business teams.
At the same time, I see tremendous opportunities. Artificial intelligence, automation, and advanced analytics have the potential to transform compliance by improving transaction monitoring, enhancing customer due diligence, reducing false positives, and allowing compliance professionals to focus on higher-risk activities. Technology should augment human judgment—not replace it.
I also believe compliance has evolved from being viewed as a regulatory requirement to becoming a strategic business partner. Compliance professionals now have the opportunity to influence business decisions, strengthen organizational resilience, protect consumers, and build trust with customers, regulators, and stakeholders.
Looking ahead, the professionals who will thrive are those who embrace continuous learning, adapt to change, leverage technology responsibly, and lead with integrity. These qualities will be essential as our industry continues to evolve.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me in both my professional and personal life are integrity, mutual respect, continuous learning, and kindness.
Integrity is the foundation of everything I do. In compliance, people trust you to make ethical decisions, even when they're difficult. Doing the right thing, being transparent, and staying accountable are principles I never compromise.
Mutual respect is equally important to me. I believe everyone deserves to be heard, valued, and treated with dignity, regardless of their title, background, or experience. The strongest teams are built on trust, open communication, and respect for different perspectives. When people feel respected, they are more willing to collaborate, innovate, and support one another.
I also believe in lifelong learning. Our industry is constantly evolving, and I challenge myself to keep growing—both professionally and personally. Every experience, whether a success or a setback, is an opportunity to learn and become a better leader.
Another value that has shaped my journey is the importance of mentorship, especially from women leaders. I have been fortunate to learn from accomplished women who have shared their knowledge, encouraged me to believe in my abilities, and demonstrated that strong leadership can be both confident and compassionate. Their guidance has inspired me to continue growing while also mentoring and supporting others as they advance in their own careers.
Ultimately, I strive to lead with integrity, treat others with respect, continue learning, and create opportunities to lift others along the way. I believe success is most meaningful when it is built on strong values and shared with those around you.
