Her Interview
Ten minutes with Randee
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of faith, persistence, and a willingness to continuously learn and grow. Throughout my career, I’ve never been afraid to step into new challenges, ask questions, and take on opportunities that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. The geospatial industry is constantly evolving, so staying adaptable and committed to learning has been a major part of my growth both technically and professionally.
I also believe success comes from building strong relationships and genuinely investing in people. Mentorship, collaboration, and community involvement have played a huge role in my journey, and I’ve been fortunate to learn from incredible leaders along the way. That’s why I’m passionate about giving back through workforce development, education initiatives, and mentoring the next generation of GIS professionals.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is never to turn down an opportunity and to never be afraid to take a seat at the table. Early in my career, I was encouraged to recognize that I belonged in professional spaces just as much as anyone else, and that growth often comes from saying yes to opportunities that feel challenging or outside of your comfort zone.
That helped shape the way I approach my career. Some of the most impactful experiences I’ve had came from stepping into roles or responsibilities before I felt completely ready. Those moments built confidence, expanded my skills, and opened doors I never expected. I’ve learned that professional growth doesn’t happen by waiting until everything feels perfect; it happens by being willing to learn, adapt, and show up when opportunities arise!
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the geospatial industry is to confidently pursue opportunities and never hesitate to take your place in professional conversations. Do not be afraid to step into roles or experiences that challenge you, because those opportunities often lead to the greatest growth and can shape the direction of your career in ways you never expected. I want young women to know that they absolutely belong in these spaces. Your perspective, ideas, and leadership are valuable!
Most importantly, seek out mentors, build relationships, and support others along the way. The geospatial community is full of people who are willing to help!
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in the GIS industry right now is helping organizations adapt to rapidly advancing technologies, including automation, artificial intelligence, and cloud-based geospatial systems. Many organizations still rely on manual workflows and legacy processes, so implementing change can sometimes be difficult. A major part of our role is not only introducing new technology, but also helping clients understand the value it brings and guiding them through the transition in a way that improves efficiency without overwhelming their teams.
At the same time, the opportunities in this field are tremendous. GIS technology is evolving faster than ever, creating endless possibilities for innovation, data integration, and smarter decision-making. From utilities and infrastructure to emergency management and community planning, organizations are increasingly recognizing the power of location intelligence to improve operations and better serve their communities!
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My Christian faith is at the center of both my work and personal life, and it guides the way I approach leadership, service, and relationships with others. I strongly value integrity, compassion, helping people, and strive to make a meaningful impact in both my professional career and my community. Throughout my career, I’ve had mentors and leaders who invested their time and encouragement in me, and I believe it is important to do the same for others. Whether through workforce development, education initiatives, or community outreach, I want to help create opportunities for people to grow both personally and professionally.
Family is also incredibly important to me, and I believe in maintaining a healthy balance between professional responsibilities, personal life, and community involvement. No matter how busy life becomes, I want the people around me to know they are valued and supported!
