Her Story
About Reshma
I'm a VP at JPMorgan Chase, where I've been in this position for 4 years and in finance for close to 7 years overall. I manage a team focused on banking software development, and we handle everything from customer experience enhancement to meeting our SLAs and ensuring uptime. We're now working with AI and new initiatives to better our customer experience, which is always our end goal. I've navigated different profiles throughout my career because I really enjoy challenges and looking forward to learning new things. From a technical perspective, I have to stay on top of technology, so I have certifications including my latest AWS Developer certification. I did my postgraduate in IT from India, and all my certifications are related to technology. What I've learned is that in today's world, keeping an open mind and always being willing to learn is very important.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Reshma
01What do you attribute your success to?
I'm always willing to learn, is what I could say. Like, in today's world, I feel keeping an open mind and learning is very important.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received is about learning and taking opportunities. When you have a career path, whenever you get some opportunity, just take it up. You never know how it will shape you. I have tried different roles and take up opportunities to learn something new, or do something differently, help the community, or do volunteering activities. I feel all these give you a different perspective to look at things.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say be agile, network. Networking is so very important. You learn so much from others, so you need to network. Being agile, open to learning new stuff. This is what I would like to advise any new person coming into this field, I think in any field.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think the challenges are being so agile, because the technology is changing so frequently, which was not the case before. I mean, it used to change, and we could keep at par with that. Now it is so frequent. Learning and unlearning, basically, it's a lot of unlearning that you have learned last year, you have to unlearn it this year, because things have changed dynamically. Keeping at par with the changes is a challenge, I feel, in my industry.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In personal life, as a scout mom, it's always be ready, be prepared, which is basically the scout motto, which I really like and I follow. Also, keeping an open mind and learning is very important. After having kids, I realized there is so much you learn from them. They come up with things, they have a clean mind. We start thinking in lines with what has been taught to us, but when it comes to kids, they have an open mind. They have so much to offer. They do things differently. I feel it's always every day is a learning lesson. You learn so much from people, observing people.
