Rosalind (Roz) Griffin has dedicated nearly 25 years to the mental health field, serving as Office Coordinator at Granville Health System Behavioral Health Service in Oxford, North Carolina. Her career in healthcare began after a layoff from telecommunications sales in the early 2000s, prompting her to return to school and earn an Associate’s degree in Medical Technology from Vance-Granville Community College in 2003. Over the years, Roz expanded her role beyond administrative duties, helping patients navigate the healthcare system, securing insurance for those who are homeless or uninsured, and supporting her team in maximizing resources and problem-solving effectively.

Roz’s commitment to personal and professional growth led her to earn a second Associate’s degree in Biblical Studies from Central Christian University in 2019. This education strengthened her faith and enhanced her ability to empathize and connect with patients facing complex challenges. Drawing on her years of experience and compassionate leadership, she has become a trusted advocate for her patients, ensuring both their mental and physical health needs are met.

Beyond her professional life, Roz is deeply involved in her community and mentorship initiatives. She actively supports programs like My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, helping young people gain exposure to new cultures and opportunities. Known for her emphasis on empathy, resilience, and optimism, Roz continues to inspire both her team and the wider community, demonstrating how dedication, faith, and compassion can create meaningful impact in healthcare and beyond.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to God. It's all about my faith. Even when you feel like there's no way out, you look up and He's there. So yes, definitely just the Lord and my faith. My parents have always wanted the best for me. My dad is gone now, but my parents always gave me the strength and the knowledge and direction to look to God for my strength. So it all goes hand in hand - God first, and then family.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just believe in yourself. Believe that you have something to offer someone else. And definitely be prepared. You know, sometimes there are naysayers that say oh, you don't want to do that, you can't do that, but I feel like God gives us different passions. Just go for what your passion is, don't let someone talk you out of it. I say that because I wanted to be a social worker, and my dad kind of talked me out of it saying you're not gonna make no money, so I went a different route into business, and I kind of regret the years not getting a social work degree and moving on to be a therapist, get my license, and really do the counseling thing to help folks.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are compassion, helping others, and making a positive impact, while in my personal life I cherish family, enjoy reading, and love spending time caring for my grandbabies.
