Her Story

About Sabrena

I've been in sales for a long time across many different industries, but I joined Specificity, Inc. in January as their Midwest sales rep. The company started out of Florida, and the owner and I have known each other since we were young. I had been selling barnominiums and custom homes as a builder, and when he helped me with a website, we reconnected. My daughter ended up getting hired as his assistant to the CEO. The more I learned about the technology and what we could do with high-intent marketing and ruling out bot traffic, the more interested I became. I saw how much money people were wasting on marketing that goes nowhere because bot traffic has taken over so much, and I almost fell victim to nefarious marketing agencies myself. Now I wake up each day excited about what I get to create and what kind of relationships I can build. I work with such different people across different vertical markets - home health, home services, healthcare facilities - and I'm able to help them find the right markets and the right audience. What I'm most passionate about personally is our partnership with Samuel U. Rogers, helping people with their medical care, finding out who's eligible for Medicaid and Medicare, and getting those people where they need to be to get the care they need. It's different every single day, and I love being able to help companies and businesses save money while connecting people with the services they need.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Learning about yourself, understanding who you are and how you got to where you are, and being open to things that you had no idea you would love. If you don't try things, and you don't seek out opportunities that are right in front of you, you'll never know. I think that, you know, prefer your happiness, and pursue what you love, and everything else will fall in place. I think it's so important that, you know, you start out in life, and you think, this is what I want to do, but there's so many skills that you build with each industry or position that really transfer over. You're not just going in one direction - it's a building block. Everything that you're doing in your life is a building block for your next adventure. Instead of being tunnel-visioned, really give that broad idea of, okay, well, I have opportunity all around me. If you open up your eyes, and you step back for yourself, you see all this opportunity, and you have all of these skills and abilities that all actually fit into so many different categories. Each part of your journey is so important to enjoy right where you're at, because you may not be there in a few years.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Learn everything you can, and about everything. Don't just get stuck on one thing. Learn about everything. Don't just get in a position and say, this is my lane. You have to stay in your lane, but it doesn't mean you can't learn all the lanes. Get deeper into understanding - like, for instance, the technology that we use for our platforms. I'm just a sales rep, but I spend time reading and understanding what it is that drives our platforms. I think a lot of people don't take the time to get an understanding of the full realm of what, especially with tech, it can encompass and what it can do. It's really important to learn everything that you can about everything that your company does. And then, even outside of that, like, what are other companies doing? Get a good understanding. Look at the whole world around you. Don't just stay hyper-focused on one thing. Open your eyes and take a step back, and look all the way around and learn everything that you can, because if they're just starting out in their career, they have no idea where it's going. Stay up on trends and technology to be able to understand what's coming, because with the digital marketing world, it's moving at, like, light speed. Everything's changing dramatically with AI. It's a constantly evolving world that if you don't keep up with it, you get passed by. There's a lot of digital marketers out there that are not keeping up with the tech, with the platforms, and the changes that are being made through AI.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being exactly who I am. Being absolutely authentic, 100%, whether I'm talking to a friend or talking to a customer. I want to be 100% authentic and completely honest and transparent. I think that there's so many of us - everybody's going through something, you know, behind closed doors. Everybody's got something going on, and you don't have to air all your dirty laundry to somebody, but, you know, if you're having a bad day, just be like, hey, you know what? I've got some stuff going on. When you're communicating with other humans, we sense it, you know, when somebody's acting off or something. When you're meeting with clients and customers and everything, I think it's just important to be authentic, so that they don't think that there's something wrong with them. Just be who you are and be transparent about life in general. Like, everybody's going through something. I think it's so important to lead with kindness, no matter what. You never know who's having a bad day, but if you lead with kindness and positivity, I mean, you can find something positive in everything, regardless of what the situation is, but if you can lead with that, then, you know, you can be a shining light for somebody that is having a bad day.
