About Sa'idah
Sa'idah Sudan is a domestic violence specialist, certified life coach, and nonprofit leader with more than two decades of experience advocating for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma. Since entering the field in 2000, she has dedicated her career to developing survivor-centered services, strengthening community partnerships, and advancing trauma-informed practices. As the founder and CEO of Baitul Hemayah, Inc. (House of Protection), she established a nonprofit organization that provides support for Muslim, non-Muslim, and immigrant women, while promoting equitable access to safety, advocacy, and recovery services without religious or cultural barriers.
Throughout her career, Sa'idah has built and led domestic violence crisis response teams, advocacy initiatives, youth resilience programs, and professional training curricula. Her expertise spans domestic violence intervention, sexual assault response, substance abuse, batterer intervention, and empowerment-based advocacy. She has trained law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, healthcare professionals, advocates, and community organizations across the United States, while also serving in leadership roles with organizations such as Penny Appeal USA and Mecklenburg County. Her work reflects a commitment to improving policies, strengthening coordinated community responses, and ensuring survivors receive compassionate, evidence-informed support.
In recent years, Sa'idah has expanded her impact through innovation by founding Hello Lilly, a survivor-centered domestic violence support platform that leverages technology to improve safety planning, secure documentation, evidence preservation, resource access, and coordinated care. Combining her extensive frontline experience with a forward-thinking approach to technology, she continues to champion solutions that empower survivors and enhance collaboration among healthcare providers, judicial systems, advocacy organizations, and community partners. Her lifelong mission is to create safer communities while equipping professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to deliver effective, trauma-informed care.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to understand that domestic violence advocacy is rooted in power, coercive control, and trauma—not simply anger management. Invest in learning about trauma and survivor behavior so you can provide effective support, and prioritize strong boundaries and self-care to prevent burnout and remain a compassionate, effective advocate throughout your career.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is the shortage of domestic violence shelters that can safely accommodate women and their children. At the same time, this presents an important opportunity to advocate for stronger policies, increased funding, and expanded community support so families in crisis have access to the safe housing and resources they need to rebuild their lives.
