Her Story

About Saja

I'm currently a Quality Engineer 2, leading an inspection lab in a medical component company. I make sure every part that is made meets quality specifications on a daily basis. My background is in microbiology - I went to school for biotechnology and concentrated in microbiology. Since I graduated, I've worked in quality and worked my way up from quality technician in a pharmaceutical company to an analyst at different levels, and was promoted to a lead microbiologist. I left the lab and transferred through different companies, started a whole new lab, and did validations and qualifications. Then I wanted to have a different career path, so I took a quality engineer position in metal medical components, which is a little bit different than the pharma life. It's still in the medical field, but it's not pharmaceutical and has different ISO classifications. I did that for almost 2 years, and then I took this Quality Engineer 2 position as a step up in plastic medical components. I've been in my field as a quality engineer for three and a half years. My most notable professional achievement is becoming an engineer, because that title is kind of hard to get - you have to go to school for engineering to earn it, and I earned it through experience instead of schooling.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to stubbornness. I'm very stubborn. When I want something, I get it done. I'm like this person that if I say I want to be a surgeon, or I want to perform a surgery, I'll study just that specific surgery to get it done. I don't give up. So I try to reach every goal I set for myself. I'm never afraid to step out of my comfort zone.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to be patient about things. Be patient, take a step back, and evaluate. And never be scared to start over.
