About Sheri
Sheri Henry, BS, CMA, AHI, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ICATAP, LLC, an innovative workforce development organization dedicated to addressing healthcare staffing shortages through apprenticeship-based training programs. With more than 15 years of experience in healthcare and a previous 20-year career in production management at General Motors, she combines operational leadership, educational expertise, and strategic workforce planning to create sustainable solutions for healthcare organizations. Her work is centered on building employer-sponsored apprenticeship pathways that prepare medical assistants and other allied health professionals while strengthening long-term workforce stability, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Before launching ICATAP, Sheri served as a Medical Assistant Program Director and faculty member at several colleges, where she led accredited medical assisting programs, developed curricula, mentored students, and ensured compliance with rigorous educational standards. Her experience as a Certified Medical Assistant, educator, and program administrator gave her firsthand insight into the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals. Motivated by requests from rural healthcare providers, she developed an apprenticeship model that has achieved exceptional outcomes, including a reported 99 percent board pass rate and more than 200 program graduates. Through partnerships with healthcare systems and organizations such as the National Rural Health Association, she continues to expand innovative workforce solutions that align education with real-world clinical needs.
Sheri holds a Bachelor of Science in Technical Agriculture from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville and an Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting from Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College. She maintains professional credentials as a Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and as an Allied Health Instructor through the American Medical Technologists (AMT). Recognized for her practical leadership style and results-driven approach, Sheri believes in confronting challenges with optimism grounded in reality. She credits her lifelong commitment to learning to the values instilled by her mother and continues to lead with trustworthiness, honesty, and kindness while helping healthcare organizations build resilient, highly skilled teams for the future.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sheri
01What do you attribute your success to?
My mother always asked me every day what I learned today, because she said you should learn something new every day. That way you're always moving forward and progressing. She was a business owner and they dedicated a tree to her with a plaque that says 'what did you learn today?'
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Never give up and never take it personally. I learned from men at GM to keep it simple and not complicate things.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Look on Indeed and see if there's apprenticeships. Medical assisting is a great entry position into healthcare because they generally work Monday through Friday, are cross-trained between lab, clinical, and administrative, and it provides good work-life balance.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Many jobs available, stable career, good work hours, can do clinical, lab work, direct patient care, administration. Work-life balance is possible but can experience burnout. The program builds a pipeline for a stabilized workforce instead of relying on travelers.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me, both professionally and personally, are trustworthiness, honesty, and kindness. I believe trust and integrity are the foundation of strong relationships, while kindness creates a positive and supportive environment for everyone. I strive to treat people with respect, be honest in my actions, and lead by example because I believe the world would be a better place if we all chose to be a little kinder to one another.
