How She Learned to Recover Faster From Disappointment
Building emotional resilience without becoming discouraged.
Building emotional resilience without becoming discouraged.
I've learned that disappointment is temporary, but persistence creates lasting opportunities. Every obstacle has become a lesson that shaped me into a stronger leader and a better advocate for others.
Setbacks don't define me. I've learned to trust God's timing, grow from every obstacle, and move forward with confidence, knowing every challenge has a purpose.
"Every setback is a setup for a comeback" I think back to what I've done and accomplished previously and remind myself, "I was made for this." What can I learn from this to apply and move forward?
Setbacks don't define me. I've learned to trust God's timing, grow from every obstacle, and move forward with confidence, knowing every challenge has a purpose.
Disappointment has taught me that resilience isn't about bouncing back quickly. It's about staying connected to yourself when things don't go as planned. Every setback has invited me to become more honest, more grounded, and more willing to keep showing up before I felt ready, without abandoning myself in the process.
I've learned that confidence doesn't come from getting everything right. It comes from recovering when things go wrong. The biggest lessons in my career have come from the moments that humbled me. Over time, I stopped fearing setbacks and started seeing them as opportunities to learn and build experience that I now carry forward with confidence.
As an entrepreneur, what I've learned is that resilience is built, not born. Every setback and disappointment has been an opportunity for growth, teaching me valuable lessons and strengthening my confidence. Setbacks don't define you. They shape you. Each challenge has deepened my resilience, strengthened my confidence, and reminded me that real growth happens when you keep moving forward, even when the path isn't easy.
Every setback has taught me something I couldn't have learned from success alone. I stopped seeing disappointment as failure and started seeing it as data, helping me gain clarity, improve my approach, and keep moving forward with purpose.
Driven by an unwavering passion for writing, I view every setback as an invitation to persevere and grow. By channeling challenges into creativity, I ensure that my voice and my story never stop moving forward.
I try to see every opportunity as a lesson, not as a regret, even though sometimes and especially in the moment, that's hard to do. Even though the outcome may not be what you expected or wanted, every step of your journey shapes who you are and helps you get where you eventually are meant to be. And as the old saying goes, it will make you stronger.
Success didn't come from having an easy path. It came from choosing to keep going when life became incredibly difficult. Over the past year, I faced personal challenges that tested me as a leader, a mother, and as a person. I learned that resilience isn't about never falling; It's about finding the strength to stand back up, lead with grace, and continue showing up for the people who depend on you. My journey is proof that even in life's hardest seasons, you can still grow, inspire others, and create a meaningful impact.
My faith in God taught me that setbacks are not the end of my story; They're often preparation for what's ahead. Every challenge has shaped my purpose and given me the confidence to keep moving forward.
Resilience isn't about avoiding disappointment, it's about choosing to move forward with purpose every time life asks you to begin again.
I have to stop blaming myself and I had to ask God to help me make it day by day. I started speaking positive words over my life.
I learned that resilience isn't returning to who I was before the setback; It's becoming someone the setback could no longer define.
The hardest moments in my life have become the foundation of my greatest strength. I've learned that setbacks may change my path, but they never have to define my future.
Every setback has taught me that resilience is built one challenge at a time. Rather than letting disappointment define me, I've learned to let it refine me, using each experience as motivation to grow stronger and move forward with purpose.
Some of my greatest career breakthroughs came after plans didn't go as expected. I've learned to view disappointment as data, not defeat, and use it to make better decisions moving forward.
Disappointment is inevitable. When disappointments come, let yourself feel them. It's ok to grieve, but don't stay there. I've discovered that every disappointment has been an opportunity to grow, to learn, to hone my skills, which has ultimately prepared me for future endeavors.
When I experience a setback or disappointment, I like to take a beat and check in with myself. It's so important to make sure that next steps align with your personal values and goals, and aren't just a means to an end.
This self affirmation really helps me recover during times of setback and disappointment. "What is for me is on its way, and what's gone was there to teach me and prepare me for greater."
I have learned that disappointment is usually trying to teach me something, even if I cannot see the lesson right away. I remind myself that it is okay to have an emotional reaction because disappointment is real and can feel painful, but I try not to stay there. I remind myself that growth can often be uncomfortable and usually requires stretching beyond what is comfortable. I focus on what the experience is teaching me, on what I can learn from this particular disappointment, and what I can control as I move forward.
Primarily, detaching from outcomes and having no expectations. Now, that does not mean that I don't set intentions and have goals; what it does mean is that I understand (from loads of experience of things not working as they 'should') to accept the situation, claim my role in it by being accountable, and choose the next best aligned action towards my goal. This alleviates the charge around disappointment (should-ing all over oneself), and offers me the opportunity to take back my power to choose differently. My Golden Thread Spiral framework illustrates this as a necessary path to grow (aka, stay resilient)!
One of the greatest ways to recover from setbacks is to learn from your mistakes, which gives you the confidence moving forward knowing that you won't make those mistakes again.
My setbacks appeared in the forms of Lupus, Congestive Heart Failure, and betrayal by someone I least expected. I developed the ability to persevere by spending time in prayer, knowing and believing in the healer Jesus Christ, who healed and set me free; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).
