Her Story
About Stephanie
I've been in logistics for 27 and a half years with Sumerico Ohio Industries, and I didn't start out in the role I'm in - I promoted into it. I also wear many hats as general manager over Heart, Soul, and Mind Healthcare, a practice where we deal with medications for mental health, which I do remotely. I've been with the practice for almost 2 years. Additionally, I serve as an Ambassador for a mental health youth group, which is a non-profit organization. Growing up, we never really talked about secondary education in my household, so when I got into logistics, I had to work my butt off for everything - nothing was handed to me. During my college years, I went to school and worked, and everything was very, very hard. People would always tell me that things delayed are never denied, to just keep pursuing. Perseverance was one of the things at the top of my list, and then I had that aha moment when things started opening up for me. A lot of my success I contribute to my work ethics, hard work, perseverance, and watching my parents and the way they pursued work. As a female in logistics, I've found that sometimes we are overlooked and tend to get pushed towards the back, so I've had to strive and show up sometimes more than the men that I work with.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Stephanie
01What do you attribute your success to?
A lot of my success I contribute to my work ethics, hard work, and perseverance. I also attribute it to watching my parents and the way they pursued work. That's where it all contributes to where I'm at and my work ethics. I grew up in a household where we never really talked about secondary education, so nothing was handed to me - I had to work my butt off for things that I had. People would always tell me that things delayed are never denied, to just keep pursuing, and perseverance was one of the things at the top of my list. Then I had that aha moment when things started opening up for me, and that's when I got it - that's what they meant by things delayed are never denied.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was when someone once told me that anything delayed is never denied. In the beginning, I didn't really understand what all that quite meant - like, I knew what it meant, but applying it to me, it seemed kind of vague, because I was like, okay, win, win, win. When I started my journey in logistics with the company I worked with, I went in and I didn't start out in the role that I'm in - I promoted into the role. But things just weren't looking very clear to me during my college years and whatnot. I went to school, I worked, everything was very, very hard, because nothing was handed to me, so I had to work my butt off for things that I had. People would always tell me, like, things delayed are never denied, just keep pursuing. Perseverance was one of the things at the top of my list, and then it was like, aha, I had that aha moment. Things started opening up for me, and that's when I got it - like, okay, this is what they meant by things delayed are never denied. So that was the best piece of advice that was given to me.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them, going into whether it be logistics, general manager, whatever it is you go into, put your all into it. You know, every day's not gonna be a walk in the park. Some days are going to be harder than others. But if you stick with it and go - I go to work with the mindset of enjoying what I do every day.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field right now, and this is more on the logistics side for me, is that I have found that as being a female, sometimes we are overlooked. We tend to get pushed towards the back, so we have to - for me, I've found that I've had to strive and to show up sometimes more than the men that I work with.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Truth and honesty are most important to me. I value hard work. I set my values on being transparent, so all that comes up under transparency - you know, being loyal, being hardworking, responsible, and loyalty.
