Her Interview

Ten minutes with Susan

01What do you attribute your success to?

My faith and hard work. I'm a very spiritual person. I think that God has a purpose for all of us, and I feel like for so many years I probably just ignored what he was trying to tell me. It wasn't until I went through a traumatic divorce and had to rediscover myself that I was able to open my heart and open my mind. I am driven by the desire to help women going through similar life transitions that I experienced. I was fortunate to have help from professionals, family, and friends, but, not all women have a support network they can call upon. This is what drives me...my purpose is to help women discover/rediscover themselves. And, hearing from the women I have helped - telling me their testimonials of how I helped them keeps me going.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Never stop your desire to learn.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Go in with an open mind and with the understanding that it takes time to build your business, build your clientele. The key is getting the experience. Get as much experience coaching as you can, offering pro bono, doing some peer coaching. True coaching is asking questions, asking a lot of questions, and letting the client know that they have the answers in them, and they've always had the answers in them. It's just that sometimes we get blocked and we can't find those answers. So a coach really just is a guide that guides you to finding the answers within yourself.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is my top value. I think just being true to yourself, being authentic, as well as living your life with integrity. Staying open-minded and empathetic to others because you just never know what someone else is going through, you haven't walked in their shoes. I'm always learning new things, and I will not stop learning until I am in my grave.
