Her Interview
Ten minutes with Vaishali
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to an adventurous spirit, a commitment to continuous learning, and strong interpersonal skills instilled in me by my parents. Leadership coaching—particularly guidance I received from a mentor at Genentech—helped shape my approach, as did a focus on team building and collaboration. My determination has been especially evident during challenging times, such as leading major implementations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I also attribute my success to my husband and daughters who have always been by my side during the difficult moments in life.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my mentor at Genentech, who provided invaluable coaching on people skills and leadership. That mentorship profoundly shaped my approach to leading others, helping me understand how to develop and support teams effectively—a lesson I continue to carry with me throughout my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to first reflect on what truly excites and motivates them—what gives them that sense of fulfillment and passion. If they are curious, eager to learn, and genuinely interested in what the industry offers, then it’s worth exploring. At the same time, it’s important to recognize when something isn’t the right fit. Enjoyment and engagement in your work matter just as much as compensation—because no matter how much you earn, it won’t be meaningful if you’re not truly happy doing it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in my field right now are ensuring inspection readiness, maintaining strong compliance, and embedding a robust quality culture across operations. At the same time, adopting rapid and automated microbiological methods presents a significant opportunity to accelerate service to patients. However, the implementation times and long term benefits are not well understood by many.. Additionally, advances in new technology for safe and quality products in both biologics, cell and gene therapy offer tremendous potential to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives. This leads to competition in the market which needs high performing teams that can meet aggressive timelines.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The value I hold most is being open to learning and new possibilities. It has shaped my career—through leadership development, team collaboration, and adapting to new challenges—and my personal life, helping me build a strong relationship with my husband and daughters. COVID also reinforced the importance of self-care and work-life balance. I have joined a daily yoga program and attend mindful wellness seminars along with working on my hobbies such as gardening, decorating cakes, crochet and family event planning. Ultimately, what drives me every day is knowing that our work impacts patients, ensuring safe and high-quality products.
