Her Story
About Victoria
My career has been wonderfully eclectic, though writing has been the thread connecting everything I've done. After graduating from law school, I began as a legal writer and editor, spending about 8 years in that role early in my career. I've never practiced law, but I moved into legal support and then spent many years in professional services marketing. I'm also an author and have built a robust ghostwriting business, especially during the 2008 economic downturn when everyone was being laid off. I ghostwrote blog posts, articles, and even industry updates for forensic accountants. Currently, I work as a paralegal at an insurance defense firm in Newark, where I summarize medical records and deposition testimony to help with the defense of cases. Interestingly, my boss once thought one of my summaries was AI-generated, which I took as a compliment. Beyond my day job, I'm deeply involved with Toastmasters International, serving as president of my chapter and doing extensive mentoring, planning, and teaching speech, public speaking, and leadership skills. I'm also getting involved with running contests throughout the district. Writing has sustained me through every phase of my career, and I continue to do writing and editing work on the side, though I avoid law firm work to prevent conflicts of interest.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to writing, because no matter what I've done in my career, I've been writing everywhere. Every job I've had has involved writing. When I was at law firms, it involved writing. I'm doing writing now as a paralegal. During the 2008 economic downturn when everyone was laid off, I had a robust ghostwriting business where I ghostwrote blog posts and articles, did writing and editing. I still do it on the side now, though I don't do it for law firms because it would be a conflict. Writing has been the one thing that has sustained me, even through poor economic times. I've even written industry updates for forensic accountants. No matter what else I've done in life, I've always had writing as a side gig. It's been my constant, my anchor, and the skill that has carried me through every phase of my eclectic career.
