When She Had to Fire a Client
Protecting the business by ending the wrong professional relationship.
Protecting the business by ending the wrong professional relationship.
As a creative and brand leader, I've had to let people go sometimes because of their own actions, and sometimes because the business required difficult cost-cutting decisions. There was never a 'good' way to do it, and I learned that carrying those decisions can make you build walls personally, even when you genuinely care about the people you lead.
As an educator, the professional relationship I realized needed to end was with a principal who did not value my efforts to support teachers and step in where help was needed. I remained through the end of the school year because I had made a commitment to the school and, most importantly, to the students. I then chose to move to a different campus where my strengths, leadership, and passion for helping others could be valued.
