"Alone, But Never Abandoned"
From Immigrant Struggle to Purpose: How Faith and Determination Transformed My Life
When we are going through difficult seasons of life, it is easy to ask, "Why is this happening to me?" For many years, I asked myself the same question.
I grew up in Uzbekistan and earned a law degree, believing I had a clear vision of my future. Like many young professionals, I thought success would follow a predictable path: education, career, stability, and growth.
Life, however, had other plans.
In 2014, I immigrated to the United States. I left behind everything that was familiar: my home, my career, my support system, my family, and the life I had spent years building. I arrived in a country filled with opportunity, but also uncertainty. Suddenly, I was no longer the professional who understood the system. I was an immigrant starting over from the beginning.
What I did not realize at the time was that every challenge I faced was preparing me for something greater. I thought I was simply trying to survive. Looking back, I can see that God was preparing me to serve, lead, and inspire others through my own experiences.
There Is a Part of My Story That Many People Never See
People see the degrees, the professional accomplishments, the career growth, and the milestones. They see confidence, success, and determination.
What they do not see are the sacrifices that made those achievements possible.
For many years, I was doing everything alone.
I was raising my children without the daily support of family members. My parents and relatives were thousands of miles away in my home country. I did not have a mother nearby to help with childcare, prepare meals, run errands, or step in when life became overwhelming. I did not have a husband to share responsibilities or help carry the weight of everyday life.
While building a career and pursuing my education, I was also responsible for every aspect of my household. There was no one else to do the grocery shopping, laundry, cooking, attend school meetings, manage doctor appointments, or handle the countless responsibilities that come with raising children.
There were days when I left work only to begin a second shift at home.
After my children went to sleep, I continued studying, completing assignments, and working toward goals that often felt impossible to reach.
Many people around me had support systems. They had spouses, parents, siblings, or relatives helping them through life's challenges. They had someone to share responsibilities with when life became difficult.
I did not.
There were moments when I felt completely alone - moments when I questioned whether I had enough strength to continue. But every time life tested me, I made the same decision: take one more step forward.
I wanted my children to see that circumstances do not determine a person's future.
Determination does.
One of the Greatest Challenges I Faced
One of the greatest challenges I faced was raising my children while building a life from the ground up in a new country.
Like many single mothers, I often carried responsibilities that extended far beyond my professional and academic goals. Every decision, every obstacle, and every betrayal from people I trusted affected not only me but also the children who depended on me.
There were times when the responsibility felt overwhelming.
Yet those years taught me some of the most important lessons of my life. They taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to keep moving forward even when the road ahead seemed uncertain.
Being a mother was never an obstacle to my success. It became one of my greatest sources of motivation.
Every challenge I overcame reminded me that I was building not only a future for myself but also an example for my children of what perseverance, faith, and determination can accomplish.
Then came another lesson I never expected.
Not Everyone Around Me Wanted to See Me Succeed
One of the most difficult chapters of my journey did not come from starting over in a new country. It came from discovering that not everyone around me wanted to see me succeed.
At one point in my professional life, I experienced disappointment that shook my confidence. People I trusted let me down. Relationships I believed were genuine proved otherwise. I found myself facing criticism, exclusion, and ultimately a professional setback that felt deeply unfair.
For a period of time, I questioned myself. I wondered whether all of my hard work had been worth it.
But over time, I realized that every challenge was teaching me something valuable.
The rejection taught me resilience.
The betrayal taught me discernment.
The obstacles taught me determination.
And the betrayal, envy, and disappointment that once felt devastating became turning points in my life.
Looking back, I no longer see those experiences as losses. They pushed me to continue my education, believe in myself, and pursue opportunities I might never have considered otherwise.
What seemed like an ending became the beginning of a new chapter.
At the time, I saw disappointment and loss.
Today, I see God's direction.
The doors that closed were leading me toward opportunities, growth, and a purpose greater than I could have understood then.
Today, I Work in the Immigration Field
Today, I work in the immigration field, helping individuals and families navigate one of the most important journeys of their lives.
Every day, I meet people who are experiencing the same uncertainty that I once experienced. They arrive with dreams, fears, and hopes for a better future.
Because of my own journey, I understand them.
I understand what it feels like to start over.
I understand what it feels like to build a future when the odds seem stacked against you.
I understand what it feels like to keep going when no one sees the sacrifices you make behind closed doors.
Strength Is Not the Absence of Struggle
My experiences have taught me that strength is not the absence of struggle.
Strength is continuing to move forward despite it.
Throughout every chapter of my journey, there was one source of strength that never left me: my faith in God.
There were many moments when I felt exhausted, overwhelmed, and uncertain about the future - moments when I did not know how I would solve the problems in front of me or find the strength to keep moving forward.
Yet somehow, every time I reached one of those difficult crossroads, a door opened.
Sometimes it was an opportunity I had not expected.
Sometimes it was a person who appeared at exactly the right moment.
Sometimes it was simply the strength to take one more step when I believed I had nothing left to give.
Looking back, I see God's hand in every chapter of my life.
When I felt alone, He reminded me that I was not.
When I faced obstacles, He showed me a path forward.
When I encountered people whose intentions were not good, He protected me in ways I did not always understand at the time.
There is a belief that God does not give us trials that we are unable to bear. Throughout my life, I have found comfort in that truth.
The challenges were never easy, but each one revealed strength within me that I did not know I possessed.
My faith did not remove the difficulties from my path.
Instead, it gave me the courage to walk through them.
Today, when I reflect on everything I have overcome - the sacrifices, the setbacks, the responsibilities, and the moments of uncertainty - I know that I did not walk that journey alone.
My faith carried me through the most difficult seasons of my life. It guided my decisions, strengthened my spirit, and gave me hope when circumstances suggested otherwise.
I Recently Became a United States Citizen
I recently became a United States citizen, a milestone that represents far more than a legal status.
It represents years of sacrifice, perseverance, and faith.
Today, I continue pursuing my Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree while balancing my professional responsibilities, motherhood, and my commitment to helping others.
My journey has taken me from being a law graduate in Uzbekistan, to an immigrant rebuilding her life in America, to a professional helping others navigate their own paths through uncertainty.
People sometimes ask me how I managed to accomplish so much while carrying so many responsibilities alone.
The truth is that I did not always feel strong.
I simply refused to quit.
Today, I carry no resentment toward the people or circumstances that challenged me along the way.
In fact, I am grateful.
I am grateful for every obstacle that tested my strength, every disappointment that forced me to grow, and every closed door that pushed me toward a new opportunity.
Some of the most significant growth in my life came from moments I would never have chosen for myself.
The experiences that once felt painful ultimately led me to healthier environments, new opportunities, meaningful relationships, and a deeper understanding of my own potential.
For that, I choose gratitude over bitterness.
Looking back, I can honestly say thank you to every person who played a role in my journey, whether they encouraged me or challenged me.
Each experience helped shape the person I am today.
What I once viewed as rejection became redirection.
What I once viewed as loss became an opportunity to grow into a stronger, wiser, and more confident version of myself.
The challenges I thought would break me became the very experiences that prepared me for the woman I am today.
What Was God Preparing Me For?
When I look back on my journey, I no longer ask, "Why did this happen to me?"
Instead, I ask, "What was God preparing me for?"
The answer is standing in the life I have built, the children I have raised, the people I have helped, and the woman I have become.
If there is one message I hope readers take from my story, it is this:
- Never allow your current circumstances to define your future.
- Never believe that you are too late to start over.
- Never allow rejection to convince you that you are not worthy of success.
- Never underestimate what God can do through a person who refuses to give up.
You may be facing challenges that seem impossible today. You may feel alone, overwhelmed, or uncertain about the future.
I understand that feeling because I have lived it.
But I also know that some of life's greatest blessings arrive disguised as difficulties.
Keep moving forward.
Keep believing.
Keep working.
Keep praying.
Trust the process, trust yourself, and trust God's plan, even when you cannot see where the road is leading.
One day, you may look back and realize that the very obstacles you feared were actually preparing you for the life you were meant to live.
I was often alone, but I was never abandoned.
