A Life of Service, Leadership, and Purpose

For me, a career is more than a professional journey; it is a calling rooted in compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others. As an ASBA, AT(ASCP)ᴹ-certified Apheresis Technician, Founder of Apheresis Awareness Day, and Administrative Assistant at Carter BloodCare, I have dedicated more than three decades to advancing patient care, strengthening clinical operations, and uplifting the apheresis community. My story is one of perseverance, innovation, leadership, and faith—a testament to what it means to grow, serve, and lead with purpose.

A Journey Built on Dedication and Growth

My career began in 1995 in mobile and donor center collections at Carter BloodCare. From the very beginning, I demonstrated a strong work ethic and a natural ability to connect with patients and donors. Over time, I advanced into increasingly specialized roles, transitioning into apheresis, a highly technical and critical area of healthcare that requires both expertise and compassion.

My progression from frontline collection staff to Apheresis Technician, and eventually to Administrative Assistant II in Clinical Apheresis, reflects not only my clinical skills but also my adaptability and leadership abilities. Throughout my career, I have mastered advanced procedures such as therapeutic plasma exchange, photopheresis, and cellular therapy collections. I have worked with complex medical equipment, contributed to research initiatives, and consistently maintained a focus on patient safety and quality outcomes.

Leadership That Elevates Others

Today, in my role at Carter BloodCare, I play a vital part in coordinating patient care and supporting operational excellence. I assist with treatment scheduling, help prepare for major regulatory inspections, and serve as a liaison among patients, physicians, and healthcare teams. My ability to bridge communication gaps ensures that both patients and staff feel supported and heard.

My leadership extends far beyond administrative duties. Over the years, I have helped develop and maintain standard operating procedures, led process-improvement projects, and contributed to quality initiatives that streamline workflows and enhance efficiency. I take pride in mentoring and training new staff members, sharing my knowledge to build stronger, more capable teams.

My commitment to excellence is reflected in multiple recognitions, including several PACT Awards at UT Southwestern Medical Center and the prestigious Richard and Diane Strauss Awards—honors that underscore my dedication to patient care, teamwork, and innovation.

A Voice and Advocate in the Apheresis Community

My influence reaches well beyond the workplace. I have been an active and engaged member of the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) for nearly two decades, serving in multiple leadership roles. Most notably, I served as ASFA President from 2023 to 2024, an achievement that reflects both my expertise and the respect I have earned within the field.

I also proudly serve as a member of the Executive Board of Directors for the World Association for Apheresis (WAA), contributing to global collaboration, education, and professional advancement.

Through my work with ASFA committees—including Allied Health, Communications, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion—and as a Technical Expert for Cell Therapy Coding and Labeling, I have helped shape standards, promote collaboration, and advocate for the advancement of apheresis professionals worldwide.

I am also the Founder of Apheresis Awareness Day, an initiative created to elevate public understanding, celebrate professionals in the field, and highlight the lifesaving impact of apheresis therapies around the world.

My contributions to scientific literature include publications and numerous abstracts presented at professional conferences, focusing on patient safety, procedural improvements, and the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Innovation and Community Impact

My passion for education and accessibility led me to create Apheresis Professionals on the Go, a platform designed to support professionals in the field. This blog shares knowledge, insights, and continuing education opportunities and can be translated into 50 languages, reflecting my commitment to global accessibility.

My dedication to service extends into my community and faith. As a state-commissioned Texas Public Notary, founder and president of my church's hospitality committee, and owner of The Betty Doggett Foundation and Professional Services, I strive to uplift and inspire others. Through the Betty Doggett Scholarship, I am able to provide assistance to students pursuing educational opportunities and personal growth.

A Lifelong Learner and Role Model

At the age of 65, I proudly earned my Associate of Science in Business Administration, embodying the belief that learning never stops. My journey from earning a GED to becoming a respected leader in my field is a powerful reminder that determination and perseverance can overcome obstacles and create opportunities.

Inspiring the Next Generation

My story is one of resilience, purpose, and impact. I have not only built an extraordinary career but have also created pathways for others to succeed. My ability to balance technical expertise, leadership, innovation, and community service makes me a true example of an influential woman.

Through every patient I support, every colleague I mentor, and every initiative I lead, I strive to inspire, encourage, and empower others to pursue excellence and serve with heart.

My message is simple: No matter where you begin, with dedication, faith, and a willingness to grow, you can achieve more than you ever imagined and make a lasting difference along the way.

I am Betty Doggett, and I am an Influential Woman.
