If You Were in My Shoes
Telling me how to heal
If you were in my shoes…
By: Vaishali Tajpuria
If you were in my shoes, would you be able to handle the stabbing pain in your head?
Would you be able to control the constant nausea?
Would you be able to overcome the constant struggle for balance and coordination?
Would you join a gym that is noisy with high intensity classes?
Still make progress despite all this?
Cope with the difficulty and heartbreak when you tried to read, but struggle?
Recognize names, faces, places?
Go and get another degree? Two?
How would cope with painful loud sounds that don’t bother most people?
Would you challenge yourself so you can improve?
Would you be able to handle crowds as you struggle not to fall?
Get back up and try again?
Move to a new state where you hardly know anyone?
Would you put yourself out there, even though you would rather introvert and sit at home?
Would you be able to cope with stress on all ends without self-destructing?
Stress over how your vision is skewed and shifted?
Cope with the shifted vision and damage to your depth perception?
Can you make it down the stairs? Without rails? Try not to fall?
Would you drive?
Would you be able to live in this damaged body?
Would you feel like giving up?
WOULD you give up?
Would you have survived?
Beat the odds?
Carry the weight of the world on your shoulders
If you were in my shoes, would you have come as far as I have?
