The Moment She Outgrew Her Old Identity
Finding Worth in God's Love: A Journey from Self-Doubt to Spiritual Wholeness
For much of my life, self-worth was something I lacked—not because I was unworthy, but because I did not yet understand how precious I was to my Lord and Savior, who knew me before I entered my mother’s womb. Because I lacked true self-worth, I experienced failed relationships. I had no healthy boundaries, and I was unable to pour into myself, let alone someone else. I entered relationships half-full—spiritually and intellectually—often anxious and carrying expectations that were centered on me rather than grounded in purpose.
While I do not take exclusive responsibility for the breakdown of those relationships, I am accountable for my part.
Everything began to change when I truly came to understand that God is real and that He loves me. Through biblical teaching and counseling, I began reflecting on my past relationships through the lens of God’s truth. I came to understand that God sees me as precious, honored, and deeply loved (Isaiah 43:4). I learned to trust His Word as His direct communication to me.
When Scripture instructs us to “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6), I began to live that truth. I started bringing my innermost thoughts, past hurts, and even my perceived timelines for life directly to Him in prayer. Through that process, the Lord strengthened me—purging me, refining me, and rebuilding me.
He revealed that my worth is anchored in Him alone. He says I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and I believe it. I learned to forgive, release past wounds, establish healthy boundaries, and trust that what is meant for me will come in His perfect timing.
Today, I am fully trusting in Christ, and that trust has taught me to walk confidently in who He created me to be. I know I am precious and honored in His sight. I have learned that peace comes from surrendering my anxiety, expectations, and timelines to God. Through this refining process, the Lord healed, restored, and strengthened me, teaching me to forgive, trust His Word, and rest in His perfect timing.
I am also living fully for Christ, waiting on His alignment and timing for the next—and final—love of my life. This time, I will enter that relationship whole—spiritually and intellectually—secure in my worth and prepared to edify, encourage, and support my significant other so that he, too, is reminded of his value.
The woman I was helped me survive certain seasons of my life. But the woman I am today has learned to surrender, trust God, and move forward knowing exactly where her worth comes from.
