The Road is Long, the Climb is High
From Uncertainty to Purpose: A Journey of Perseverance and Finding My Ikigai
I can almost see it that dream I’m dreaming, but there’s a voice inside my head saying you’ll never reach it. Every step I’m takin’ every move I make feels lost with no direction. My faith is shaken, but I gotta keep trying, gotta keep my head held high!
There's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side
It's the climb ~ Miley Cyrus
The road has been long, filled with unexpected twists and turns, often leading to places I couldn’t predict or fully understand.
Over the past seven months, I found myself at a true crossroads. My unemployment benefits were ending, and after 26 years of the blessing of having my son as my roommate, splitting the bills to lessen my burden. And then without a moment’s notice. He is stepping into his next chapter. Having so many life changes converge at once felt heavy and uncertain. I struggled every day to get up out of bed and continue my search for employment not knowing if today would be the day. What’s anxiety without a little bit of fear of the unknown?
There were moments when I didn’t know how I would make rent the following month, or how I would afford medication or even basic necessities. Yet somehow, I kept moving forward—One foot in front of the other getting stronger than I realized, carrying hope even when the destination wasn’t clear.
Today, I’m deeply grateful to share that I’ve accepted a role that allows me to live my best life ~ Ikigai ~ a Japanese description meaning a road to happiness or living for a purpose. This job will allow me to do what I love, use the skills that I’ve mastered, serve others in need, and make a living at the same time. This opportunity arrived at the eleventh hour, reminding me that perseverance matters and that support, strength, and purpose often show up right when we need them most.
This isn’t just a job—it’s a breakthrough. A reflection of resilience, timing, and the quiet forces that carry us when our own strength feels stretched.
To anyone standing on a long, winding road of their own: hold on. Even when you don’t know where the path leads, you may be stronger than you think—and what’s meant for you can still be ahead.
