When I Chose Courage Over Comfort
How One Founder Left Corporate Life to Build a Medicare Service Rooted in Compassion, Transparency, and the Aloha Spirit
“I Didn’t Build Ohana Medicare to Sell Plans — I Built It to Restore Trust, Dignity, and Humanity to the People Who Deserve It Most.”
Introduction
Stepping away from my 9-to-5 job was not an easy decision. I was making decent money, but the constant stress of working around false advertising, misleading promises, and aggressive Medicare marketing tactics weighed heavily on my heart and mind.
Deep down, I knew I was being pulled toward something more meaningful—something more aligned with who I am.
The Moment Everything Shifted
Taking the independent step to become the founder of Ohana Medicare became more than a career move—it became my leap of faith.
It was a decision guided by the courage in my heart to bring full transparency and genuinely compassionate service to Medicare beneficiaries, the disabled community, and our Veterans.
I saw how many people were overwhelmed, confused, and pressured by nonstop Medicare marketing calls and mailers—especially those promoting “free groceries” or “cash back” simply to lure them in. Once they called, the pressure to enroll in a plan was immediate and intense.
And the truth?
Those groceries and cash rewards rarely ever came.
Every time I witnessed that, it broke something inside me.
It did not feel honest.
It did not feel compassionate.
And it certainly did not feel like the kind of service our seniors, disabled community, and Veterans deserve.
I was even told by a supervisor that compassion was not in my job description.
That moment stayed with me.
I knew there had to be a better way—a more human way.
A way rooted in how I was raised in Hawaii: through the Aloha spirit and the meaning of Ohana.
Cutting Through the Noise
Every day, beneficiaries are bombarded with exhausting Medicare marketing calls, each one promising something different and adding to the confusion.
I watched people feel more lost than informed.
More frustrated than supported.
That is when my purpose became crystal clear:
To cut through the noise and focus on what people truly need.
The Heart of Ohana Medicare
At Ohana Medicare, clarity replaces confusion, and compassion replaces pressure.
I believe every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and respected—not rushed, sold to, or overwhelmed.
My mission is to ensure beneficiaries have the knowledge, confidence, and peace of mind they need to make informed healthcare decisions that genuinely support their well-being.
This work is more than a profession.
It is a calling rooted in the Aloha spirit.
A commitment to kindness.
A commitment to patience.
A commitment to heartfelt service.
Every conversation, every explanation, and every moment of guidance is offered with the intention to uplift, empower, and honor the people I serve.
Walking With Aloha
With every step, I carry the Aloha spirit forward—ensuring that no one walks their Medicare journey alone, unheard, or confused.
Instead, they walk it with clarity, confidence, and someone who truly cares.
This is the heart of Ohana Medicare.
This is the work I was meant to do.
This is the courage I chose over comfort.
