You Can Only Change With Change
The Wisdom to Evolve: Why True Progress Demands We Release What No Longer Serves Us
You Can Only Change With Change
Why meaningful growth requires the courage to reassess, adapt, and make different choices.
By Tara Brown | International Bestselling Author & Founder of Unchosen Choices™
We often speak about change as something we desire, yet rarely consider what change requires of us. We want different outcomes, greater opportunities, and higher levels of success, but sometimes remain committed to the same approaches that have kept us where we are.
The truth is simple: You can only change with change.
When I founded Unchosen Choices™, my vision was to encourage awareness, challenge inherited patterns, and inspire intentional decision-making. That vision led to the publication of my memoir, Unchosen: The Choices You Don't Know You Are Making, which became an international bestseller and opened doors to new opportunities, meaningful connections, and community engagement.
But as the platform continued to evolve, I began recognizing something equally important. Progress does not always mean growth, and being busy does not necessarily mean being productive.
I invested time, energy, and resources into building something meaningful. I explored different avenues, from publishing and speaking to coaching and community events. Some experiences created valuable connections, while others revealed that effort alone does not guarantee the results we envision.
That realization required me to examine my own choices.
Was I continuing certain activities because they aligned with my long-term vision, or simply because they were part of the original plan?
There is a difference between perseverance and remaining attached to an approach that no longer serves your purpose.
In my previous article, Stay the Course, I explored the importance of trusting the process and recognizing that meaningful achievements take time. I still believe that wholeheartedly. However, staying the course does not mean refusing to adjust your direction.
Sometimes staying committed to the destination requires changing the route.
Today, I am approaching the next chapter of Unchosen Choices™ with greater intention. Rather than measuring success solely through recognition, visibility, or the number of opportunities pursued, I am focusing on meaningful impact, sustainable growth, and decisions that support the platform's long-term purpose.
This means reassessing priorities, recognizing what works, releasing what doesn't, and understanding that every opportunity is not necessarily the right opportunity.
Change is not always comfortable. It may require us to reconsider what we once believed was the only path forward. But growth cannot occur if we are unwilling to evolve beyond the expectations we originally created.
The same principle applies to our personal lives, careers, relationships, and ambitions.
We cannot continue making the same choices while expecting our circumstances to transform simply because we desire something different.
Unchosen Choices™ was built on one fundamental belief: You can't change what you don't recognize. Once you see the pattern, you have a choice.
Today, that message applies just as much to my journey as it does to those I hope to reach.
Because success isn't simply about having the courage to begin or the determination to continue. Sometimes, it's about having the wisdom to change.
And at the end of the day, you can only change with change.
