Breaking Into Cybersecurity: The Power of Curiosity, Growth, and Adaptability

Cybersecurity is often viewed as a field reserved for people who have spent decades in technology. However, my journey has shown me that a willingness to learn, adapt, and challenge yourself can open doors you never expected.

My Path Into Cybersecurity

My path into cybersecurity was not a straight line. Like many professionals, I began by learning, asking questions, and building confidence one step at a time.

The more I explored the field, the more I realized that cybersecurity is not just about technology—it is about people, communication, problem-solving, and protecting what matters most.

One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that curiosity is one of the most valuable skills in cybersecurity. The industry is constantly changing, and no one has all the answers. The strongest professionals are those who continue learning, ask thoughtful questions, and are willing to step into unfamiliar situations.

Earning My Certified Cybersecurity Professional (CCP) Certification

Earning my Certified Cybersecurity Professional (CCP) certification was an important milestone in my career journey. It represented more than a credential—it represented dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to continued growth in a field that evolves every day.

Today, as a cybersecurity consultant, I have the opportunity to support organizations as they navigate security challenges, compliance requirements, and processes designed to protect their environments.

One thing that has stood out to me throughout my experience is that cybersecurity success depends on collaboration. Security teams, organizational leaders, technical professionals, and end users all play essential roles in creating a strong security culture.

For Women Considering a Career in Cybersecurity

For women considering a career in cybersecurity, my advice is simple:

Do not wait until you feel completely ready.

Start learning. Ask questions. Find mentors. Take opportunities that challenge you.

Confidence is built through experience, and every expert was once someone learning the fundamentals.

Cybersecurity needs diverse perspectives. It needs people who can think differently, communicate effectively, and bring new ideas to solving complex problems.

Your background, experiences, and unique approach are strengths—not obstacles.

The future of cybersecurity will be shaped by those who are willing to learn, adapt, and lead.

I am excited to continue growing in this field and to encourage others to take that first step toward their own cybersecurity journey.
